  • 14 day induction results, advice needed!

    Hi everyone,

I have been overweight most of my adult life. The last time i was happy with my size was 6 years ago when I was at university when i weighed 13stone (I look at photos of me then and really want to look like that again) I never really used to eat properly at that time and thats why I lost so much weight.

Since I left uni I started my curent job as a computer operator and became inactive, sitting at my desk all day and just eating continually. Most of the staff there have gained weight due to food deliveries and high carb diets.

2 weeks ago I thought enough is enough so I bought the latest atkins book. I have been weight training for about 3 months and I really wanted to lose the fat.

I weighed 17st 3lbs when i started 14 days ago and by end of the first week I went down to 16st 4lbs which I was totally amazed at. This when I made the mistake of buying some scales (I had previously used my mums at her house!) Then I weighed myself every day and started to get depressed that they were not budging!

I then found this wonderful forum and read the threads on weight loss not being linear etc, so i stopped weighing myself! Anyway on the last day of the official 14days I had to weigh myself and yesterday I weighed 15st 13lbs which I think is fantastic 18lbs in 2 weeks. I am missing the diet coke and i suppose bread but apart from that its quite easy. I just hope i see continual progress. I am going to start measuring myself as a way to guage my losses from now on.

I always thought I would continue with induction for a long time but now i am not sure? What do you guys think? I can do it and do not find myself hungry or bored with it. I also see some great recipes and ideas on here that i will start this week. I have also started walking at night and will soon start jogging. I tried skipping but I ended up hurting myself down below if you see what i mean!

this forums great and i have sen some real success stories that inspire me!

    cheers

    Joe

Moving onto OWL or continuing on with an extended Induction is an individual choice. Read the sticky called "DAY 15: should I stay or should I go (to OWL)" for guidance.

    Congrats on your loss.

In the book, it says a question to ask yourself is Would you prefer more carb intake at the expense of slower weight loss? If not stick to induction it says i nthe book that you can go on induction safely for at least 6 months and the book stated several people have gone much longer and since the good doctor only said we can live on it and never gave a limit, you can go on it as long as you like, until you get within what was the number like 30 pounds to your goal weight if not at that stick to extended induction! Read the sections on induction and OWL and read the key tips in the back it would help you make the reight decision for you.... If you have a lot to lose join me in Induction (extended) my firend and lets be losers together!!!!

        cheers for the replies guys!

After reading the relevent sections I think I will continue with induction, who needs those damn carbs anyway. I am gonna weigh myself in another 2 weeks and see what happens.

Its great to have such a forum like this and I will become more of an active member as my atkins drives me forward!

            Hello Joe :wave
Great to have another Brit on board!!
            Congratulations on your loss :clapping
All I would add to the good advice you have already been given is this .
Plan on being at the pre-maintenance stage of Atkins when you have 5-10 pounds left to maximise your likelihood of staying at goal for life.
I look forward to hearing of your progress towards better health and a toned body!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
