  • In Ketosis!!!

I finally entered into ketosis! I know many say that the stix don't matter, but I wanted it for nothing else but a mental boost. Its like physical tangible evidence of the changes going on in my body. I hope the mirror results come soon after!!!

    Quick couple of questions:
Now that I am in ketosis, has the body just now started using fat for energy or has it been doing so during my first 3 days of induction? Now that I am in induction, does this mean that pretty much every activity I do I will burning fat for energy? Even sleeping? I am not an overweight person, but I am trying to lose about 15 lbs to hit my target weight. With working out 6 days a week (p90x), how long will do you guys think it would take me to shed these final pounds?

    Re: In Ketosis!!!

Hi and welcome! Yay for ketosis - welcome the fat burning.

As many people will tell you, the body will do what it wants to do. As long as you follow the plan, results will follow. You can't really set a clock to it.

During the first days, the body is transitioning from glucosis to lipolysis. Dr. Atkins wrote that this process typically takes 2-3 days. At the beginning you might not be producing enough ketones to spill over into the urine, so you were probably in ketosis a little before the stix registered it.

Yes and no. Some cells in your body don't have a mitochondria, so they still need glucose as fuel... and here's where gluconeogenesis comes into play.

Did you know that we all produce ketones when we sleep at night and we did this all our life? That's because the dinner you had won't last until morning even if you are on a "regular" diet, so the body will start producing ketones for energy.

It's really impossible to say how long it will take. The less you have to lose, the slower it goes. Plus, if you are exercising heavily, your inches might go down even when your weight stays the same. That's why it's best to make friends with the measuring tape.

      Happy shrinking!

        Congratulations
I saw the infomercial for the P90X. I was very impressed. Quite a workout.
15 pounds probably takes as long as 150 pound to lose. [Those last few pounds can be pesky AND Dr. Atkins says we should lose them slowly. Only then will we learn how to live thin)
