  • About onions

I'm not sure I've ever seen a green onion before in British supermarkets... so over here we mainly eat white or red onions. Are they good for Atkins or not?

Well its been over a year now and I am currently on maintenance and still trying to adjust to the "new" ME. No major struggles to report, just livin' day to day.

Green onions are also known as scallions I think that is why you may be confused. They come in a bunch, there are 4.7 net carbs in 1 cup of chopped green onions according to FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

        Re: About onions

Ahhh haha.. these are Spring Onions. I just googled Scallions. Right well that clears that up for me. I thought Green Onions were proper big like white or red.

Cheers for that. Seems my big red onion is good coming in at 4g net carbs per onion

However white onions are coming in at 10g net carbs for a medium sized one. Oh well I prefer red anyway heh.

        Thanks again

where are you getting your carb counts? I found this: http://www.produceoasis.com/Items_fo.../RedOnion.html Red onions are on the sweet side, so I wanted to double check for you.

I use weightloss resources and food focus. I found Fit Day a nightmare to use with it being US based, so I switched to WLR which has a huge British food database

              Re: About onions

              Scotty,

I though red onions were too sweet as well. However, I looked it up on my carb counter. It said spring were 3 carb per half cup and red were 4 carb per half cup. As long as you aren't using more than 120 grams per serving and count in the carb they appear to be a great choice. Wow I assumed they would be too sweet!

Ps looks like u r doing great

I wonder if you are talking about the same red onions? I don't find them sweet at all! -Quite strong really.
