  • How Much Is One Serving?

A lot of the recipes on here don't state how much one serving is. Can anyone tell me what the standard serving amount is? I was looking at a garlic mashed turnip recipe that I wanted to make - it states it's 4 servings, but again is one serving 1 c or what?? Or am I supposed to figure it out??

I might be missing the nuance of your question (it's been a long day), but if you make a recipe that has 4 servings, isn't one serving one-quarter of what you made?

Yes, but what I'm saying is am I just supposed to eyeball it or figure out exactly how much 1/4th of my recipe is?? Some recipes would say, for example, recipe makes about 4 1/2 cup servings. So then I know one serving equals 1/2 c. You see what I'm saying??

Yes, I see. I kind of wing it. If it was 4 servings, I'd mentally divide the bowl/pan in half, then half again for a serving. I wouldn't worry about this too much.

Is this the recipe you were looking at http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...d-turnips.html ?

When you put all raw ingredients together, this makes a serving of approximately 0.875 cups. After cooking and after you mash the turnips, the volume will be smaller... which means a serving will be less than 0.875 cups. So you see, the numbers you get when trying to figure this out in cups are quite ugly. The best thing to do is simply divide what you get in four (more or less) equal parts and figure out the nutritional info that way. You could be off by one carb, but nothing to worry about.
