    Im just starting Induction (today)
Sadly Im addicted to Pepsi (not diet)

So in starting Induction, Im looking for something sweet to drink .

I realize the cravings for sweet drinks may diminish over the next 14 days.

Will Sprite Zero stall my efforts?

    Million dollar question that one.
Personally I would not risk it. Sweet drinks are not good when you are on Atkins. You are trying to stabilize your bloodsugar and make ketosis work for you and if keep dipping into sweet things (real or artifical) you may be hampering your own progress.

Try water, water and more water. Have 48 water bottles around your house, some in your car and some you can grab on your way out and sip on water. (Do not go far from a toilet) This really helps.

I hope you can do it.

Welcome to ADBB. Glad to have you here.

They will, but only if you give yourself a fair chance. If you keep drinking sodas, your cravings for them will not disappear.

It could since it's sweetened with aspartame.

Induction is only two weeks and I'm sure you want to get the best results out of it or you wouldn't have started Atkins in the first place. Use these two weeks to break the bad eating habits you have formed over the years (not easy, but it can be done) and you'll not only lose the maximum possible amount of weight, but you'll also be healthier. I'm pretty sure at the end of the 14-day Induction you won't be "dreaming" about sodas anymore.

        Welcome to ADBB,
I had an addiction to soda and the sweetness. beofre starting induction I switched to sweetened Iced tea and decrease the sugar each day for a week. Then I started Induction and had the first two days wanting something sweet but it has passed!!!
Try with all your might to get off any and all sweetners and the craving WILL pass. Give your body a few days and the cravings will diminish.

Water, water, water!!! Drinking syrup is what brought us here!! Why sabotage your efforts?? I was a Coke and MelloYello ADDICT. I didn't drink water. Period. I decided if I was going to put in all the effort this WOE would take, invest in all the healthy foods, exercise my body religiously and adopt this whole new "diet", there was no way I was taking any of the old life with me! Why? That would fall under the category of wasted efforts. I couldn't allow that. I can't imagine why anyone would. I look at it like this. Being a diet soda addict on Atkins is kind of like giving up full flavor cigarettes for light cigarettes. It's still gonna get you!

I don't know if you've ever studied the pH of the body but apparently not if you're still consuming diet sodas. It's horrible. Most diet sodas contain ingredients that when warm become extremely carcinogenic. If you must have a crutch, make it cucumbers or exercise. Hang up the syrup bottles. It's time....

            Re: Induction Beverages

Try to find a diet soda sweetened with Splenda or sucralose to ease the transition... those are acceptable sweeteners. However you are only allowed 3 per day...

              Re: Induction Beverages

I've been on induction for two days and I must've missed the fine print on beverages. My fault, I take the blame. However, I've been drinking Diet Lipton White Tea Peach Papaya and while it has no sugar, no carbs I just realized there is 15mg/8 fl.oz. of caffeine per serving, and it does have aspartame. How much is this going to affect my weight-loss? Should I start over? I'm totally bummed out about this..

No-one can tell how it will affect your weightloss progress, but you can limit the effect by dropping it now

If by 'starting over' you mean should you restart counting your 14 days I would suggest no If yesterday was day 2 then today is day 3.

If we all had to restart our first 14 days of induction when we found something we were doing wrong some of us would never have been able to move on to the next 3 phases of Atkins.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                  Water…water…water

This is from the "Read before you start" thread in the 14 day Induction area:
Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
                  Filtered water
                  Mineral water
                  Spring water
                  Tap water

After your 64 ounces daily you can have the following:
Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
                  Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three Tablespoons a day; note carb content)
                  Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs (may cause a stall in weight loss)
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three Tablespoons

*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted during Induction; those low in carbohydrates are an option, in moderation, in later phases

As a note here, I agree that water is your best friend. I haven't had a drink that wasn't water in 2 weeks.. Go me!!
On that note, diet rite sodas have several flavors that are all carb free, sugar free, caffeine free, AND made with Splenda instead of aspartame.
                    Mini goals:
                    1st - 209 lbs - Smaller then my husband!
2nd - 202 lbs - BMI no longer considered obese
3rd - 199 lbs - No longer have to say 2 in my weight!
5th - 168 lbs - BMI no longer considered overweight

                      Re: Induction Beverages

I also discovered Shasta Diet creme soda with Splenda. I have a can for my "dessert". I never even finish the whole can. So, I'm down to less than one can of soda per day. I was a MAJOR Diet Pepsi addict. I think I'm more shocked at how I haven't drank DP verses my weight loss.

Another one I noticed, but I haven't tried is Hansen's Diet flavors. They sell them at Trader Joe's. I think if you hold out and have it handy for those shaky moments you'll be okay. In other words, IMHO, it's better to reach out for that can than a candy bar when you're feeling weak.

btw, I'm only a newbie, so take my advice with caution. LOL
