    Re: check this out

I already have a goal in mind, I need to lose 10 kilos, actually if I lost 5 I think i can lose the last 5 very easy, the thing is, I go on atkins now for the second time.. 4 days really good then, smthn happens n' I just go off the wagon. Im not really fond of food anymore, I crave things, but most of the time, I would be drinking rather than eating !.. maybe I eat when i just have to or when there's nothing else to do n' I constantly think of food. And as I said, these days are very hard for me !..

Besides im a huge cofee addict, but it's 40degrees in Egypt now, so I usualy have iced cofee or iced latee with skimmed milk n' no sugar in the morning , or any other time actually !.. I can have these and not eat all day long and that would be fine with me

I think Im a big girl, I have heavy muscels weight, I used to play sports, so.. Im not really petite ! .. i'm 167 cm tall and now 85 Kilos ! .. im targeting 75 and that would be very fine for me !!

Did the nuts gave you blood sugar symptoms or did you go completely off Atkins because you thought "oh, I cheated with nuts... now I can have something else that's not allowed, because I had screwed up anyway"?

Just because it doesn't have sugar listed among the ingredients, it doesn't mean there is no sugar in the ingredients that were used to marinate the chicken. Do you know what's used to marinate it?

When you decide to move to OWL, what you have to add first are more veggies, not nuts. OWL Rung 1 is veggies, OWL Rung 2 is diary (fresh cheeses, yogurt, more aged cheeses), and only OWL Rung 3 is nuts. Follow the rungs in order and take your time to test foods properly, so that you minimize the risk of messing up your blood sugar.

Make your next meal Induction-friendly. I doubt that chicken is "legal", and if it was prepared with non-Induction ingredients it will only work against you by possibly triggering cravings --- it's a better idea to cook everything yourself, so that you know exactly what's added in the food and in what quantities. I'm sure you already did some planning to get back on track, so what will your meals be tomorrow and what exercise will you be doing?

And by the way, exercising releases endorphins, which are brain-soothing chemicals that help in reducing stress and controlling your appetite, so going for a brisk walk will do you much better, both physically and mentally, than eating ice cream.

That sounds good, but a little more food would be even better. Hunger is not necessarily signaled by a growling stomach --- dizziness, agitation, nausea, irritability, etc. can also be hunger symptoms. If you are hungry and not recognize hunger as such, you might be paving your way towards Cheatland/Bingeland.

For breakfast, have your decaff, but eat some cheese and/or a boiled egg too. For lunch make sure you get some fat, not only protein and carbs, so that you eat a meal that will satisfy your hunger at the table and also keep you full between meals. It's okay to have cheese for dinner, but have some veggies and a little fat with it. Veggies should be eaten in small portions throughout the day, so you don't want to eat all your three cups at lunch. If more than 6 hours pass between any of your meals, eat a snack to avoid overeating at your next meal.

If you have ice cream and sodas in the house, give them to friends or neighbors. They'll appreciate it and besides you don't need them from tomorrow on anyway since you'll be sticking to your Atkins plans.

I'm a bit confused. You want to do OWL Rung 1 (which is 5 net carbs of veggies above your Induction intake), but don't want to eat veggies? If you are not too happy about having to eat 3 cups of veggies, why would eating 5 net carbs more of them make it any better?

Milk is not allowed during Induction. Anyway, 1/4 of a teaspoon is something like 1 mL. That doesn't even change the color of your coffee, let alone change its taste.

Try to avoid compromises in your diet. OWL, Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance will all build on the Induction phase. During Induction you'll find an estimate of your degree of metabolic resistance, you'll stabilize your blood sugar, you'll break bad dietary and lifestyle habits, plus your chances to stick to the diet on the long term will increase a lot once you see how much weight you can lose by simply following the Rules. That's why you want to have a minimum of 14 "clean" days of Induction --- this way you will be ready to successfully move to OWL and progress through the rungs and further phases, without making Atkins just another sad episode of a yo-yo dieting series.

But after the first weeks, you can (actually, based on the amount of weight you need to lose, you should) move to OWL and slowly climb the Carbohydrate Ladder.

Why not boil some eggs tonight so you don't have to cook them tomorrow morning? You could actually do all this now --- let them boil while you are spending time on the Board.

The foods you listed all contain grains. Grains can be added back in 5 net carb amounts during OWL Rung 9 and then in 10 net carb amounts in Pre-Maintenance. But by the time you reach OWL Rung 9, you probably won't be missing them any more and you'll prefer a lower carb meal.

                      Re: check this out

Dr. Atkins often repeats in DANDR that Atkins is a way of eating healthy for life and weight loss is just the added bonus of it. You can skip rungs if you don't like the foods on them (e.g. skip Rung 5 if you don't drink alcohol), but skipping OWL Rung 1 is not a good idea. Veggies will give you many of the vitamins, minerals and fiber your body needs to stay/become healthy/healthier while you are losing weight. Furthermore, many of us lose weight better when our carbs come from vegetables instead of diary, nuts, legumes, etc.

Russian desserts? Yikes, they are dangerous! They are like the Matrioshkas --- you eat one and then comes a smaller one, and a smaller one, and another smaller one and so on. Little nasty menaces! Always have your Atkins emergency kit around in case they attack you.

But...... if you get hurt in the battle...... immediately get back on track. You will probably have cravings for more sugar, so make sure you have some allowed low carb foods to snack on rather than eat a candy bar, cake, pie, etc. Don't restart Induction, but move on and finish your 14 days. However, you should know that if you cheat, the chart that tells your degree of metabolic resistance will become pretty useless as your results will be skewed. It would be nice to know that number when you move to OWL, so try your best to stay on track or at least as close to it as possible.
