  • Question about Walden Farms

    hi.

i got 2 walden farms salad dressing with me, BACON RANCH & CAESAR. they're both supposedly sugar free, fat free, carbs free, and cholesterol free. so if you look at the nutritional chart info at the back of the bottle, everything says 0 (zero), except for sodium, which is about 275 mg per 2 tbsp.

does this mean that i can use it liberally on my salad (i.e., more than 2 tbsp)?

in case youre wondering what the ingredients are, here it is:

    purified triple filtered water
    distilled white vinegar
    cellulose gel
    onion powder
    garlic powder
    buttermilk flavoring (non dairy)
    sour cream flavoring (non dairy)
    salt
    artificial bacon bits
    lemon juice
    xanthan gum
propylene glycol alginate and sodium benzoate (to preserve freshness)
    sucralose
    food color

as for the CAESAR dressing, almost the same ingredients except for anchovies, parmesan cheese flavoring and romano cheese flavoring.

i know there is sucralose, but since it is toward the end of the list, it means there's very little added, right?

    any thoughts?

The sucralose will make it count toward your 3 daily sweetener allotments.

I haven't tried Walden Farms in a loooong time, so I don't know if they improved on the taste or not. When I wasted my money on a bottle, it tasted horrible---so horrible I emptied the contents into the sink.

      Thanks for the info, Megs.

I havent really tried them before so I wouldn't know if they've improved or not. But since there isn't much choice when it comes to salad dressings (at least for me), i could tolerate them if only to spice up my lettuce.

cold milk of magnesia.......hmmmm, so they DID improve the taste (but not by much I see.)

Seriously though, that stuff was pretty bad. When I'm in a pinch, I just toss the greens with a tablespoon or so of olive oil (or a neutral tasting oil), then squirt a lemon wedge on top, a pinch of salt and a good grating of black pepper. Then toss.

Best of luck for your experience, but for me the dressings tasted like melted plastic. Disgusting.

why can't you use regular salad dressing? Or Oil and Vinegar? I use Caesar dressing or Hidden Valley Ranch dressing on my salads
