  • Why did I start losing weight again once I ate more carbs?

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to this board so I'll give you a little run down of the situation before I ask my question.

I originally weighed around 124 lbs and during the first fews days of induction I got down to 121 lbs, but from there I just couldn't lose anymore. I was following the induction diet strictly, and did not cheat. I was eating a little over 1,000 calories per day of chicken, eggs, and the allowed veggies and fats. Around day 12 I started to get angry and frustrated and strayed from the diet a little bit. I didn't go out and buy a bag of bagels, but I allowed myself to have quite an amount of peanut butter, which ultimately threw me over my 20 net carbs per day limit. When I weighed myself the next afternoon, I noticed that I felt a little thinner and that my body had finally let go of some more weight. I am now at 118.2.

My question is this: Is it possible that my weight loss was stalling because I wasn't having enough carbs? I was quite thin to begin with, 5'6" and 124 pounds (Trying to lose weight for a modeling job). I wonder if my body thought it was starving so it was holding on to every last pound it could. Or was this just a fluke? Have any of you heard of something like this before?

Yes. People make the mistake of thinking eating as close to 0 net carbs daily will accelerate their weight loss. It often has the opposite effect.

It could also be a loss of water weight.

But honestly, eating 1000 calories a day is near starvation levels. I mean, a 2 year old child needs between 1000-1500 calories per day. Sure you'll lose weight eating very little, but it's not healthy.

I think it was more the low calories than the low carbs... You should be having at least 1400 calories per day at your height and weight...

Wow, that happen to me too - I spent 2007 eatting ALOT of peanut butter and I kept losing weight - I don't know if peanut butter in particular is the helping factor here but it's just funny that both you and I had the same effect, lol. Good luck on your weight loss journey and modeling career

It probably boosted your calories so your body was no longer hoarding them since you had been starving it. Close to 20 carbs and 1400 cals a day is the right recipe.

My goal weight is 112. I know that is an underweight BMI for my height (5'6") so I do not plan on maintaining this. I just need to be at this weight for a photoshoot in mid July and then afterward I can go back to being a healthy weight. And I think you guys might be right. I was wondering why I wasn't losing weight at 1,200 calories per day. This makes sense.

Gosh, I always assumed that they airbrushed all photos nowadays as many models in them look so unnaturally shaped
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
