  • New to the Forum and Any Suggestions?

I am new to the forum but not new to Atkins. I have done Atkins off and on for years now and it seems to be the only diet that works for me. I have started Induction again and have lost 10 pounds in 7 days. This is how a standard day is for me. Tell me if I should incorporate other foods in my diet.

Breakfast - 2-3 fried eggs in butter
Lunch - I have been skipping lunch because I am just not hungry but if I do eat, it is mostly a handful of pepperoni and cheese cubes or a burger with no bun.
Dinner - Steamed shrimp in butter, Steak fried in butter, hamburger patty, chicken breast. One of the above with 1 cup of green beans.

I guess my concern is that I am not really getting any nutrients in my system. I am not a big fan of vegetables besides the high carb ones (corn, rice, etc.). What are some other veggies that I should put into my diet? Also, I still cannot get rid of the diet sodas. I try to drink water instead but still find myself drinking 1-2 Coke Zeros per day.

This seems like a great site and found it the other day while doing a search for the carb count of steamed shrimp. I am looking forward to learning and discussing Atkins with everyone on here.

EDIT: I guess I will admit I was kind of bad yesterday on father's day. Drank alot of light beers and had some sugar free cheescake and italian suasages that were in tomato sauce - didn't eat the pasta though. I am going to have to double my water intake this week to flush my system out. I am fine when I am in my own comfort zone around my house, I stick to the diet to a T, but as soon as I go to a family function or event, I tend to stray away from the regiment. I always get pissed at myself the next day too. Today the scale was 3 lbs heavier from my little party stray. Just makes me realize more that I need to be strict on this induction phase.

    Hi Davey
    Welcome to ADBB!

As I am the first to respond here I might as well get the usual out of the way

Have you read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution yet? There is a long list of about 50 plus veggies we are supposed to choose from and have up to 3 cups a day of.

So take a look at them and see if you can manage to get some of them added to your menu! You can use one of the food logging sites (I use www.fitday.com) and see what amount of the daily recommended vitamins/minerals you are missing and choose some that add to this.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

As you know, you need more veggies there. What about about mini pizzas made on portabella mushrooms? Or peppers stuffed with salad (like tuna salad, for e.g.)? Many people find jicama tastes like apples and it's one of the veggies on the salad list. You could also "hide" veggies in things like quiches.

Do you prefer cooked veggies? Raw?

This is the list of foods allowed during Induction, including the long list of vegetables: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

Sodas. Sweeteners are limited to 3 servings per day, so you can have maximum 24 oz of soda, assuming you don't consume sweetener from any other sources. You should know however that Dr. Atkins said we should avoid aspartame whenever possible (that's what Coke Zero is sweetened with), because he observed that a quarter of his stalled patients were stalled by aspartame-sweetened diet drinks. Try to break the habit as it will be good both for your weight loss and for your general health.
