  • Question About Water

I'm on day 6 of a two week (will be extended) induction.

I read a lot on here, and read in the book, that you need at least 64 oz of pure, unadulterated water.

The problem is, I can't stand water. It all tastes absolutely horrid to me. And it's not a matter of being used to soda/pop either, because I never drank that before. I've always had this problem with water.

Is it really that bad to add 1 tablespoon of lemon or lime juice, or about 1/4 cup of tea (plain, black tea without anything added) to 3 cups of water and drink it that way?

You could float a slice of lemon or lime on the water or stick a sprig of fresh mint leaves in it. But have you tried drinking water differently? Such as ice-cold or room temperature.

I have horrible tasting water here. So I've invested in a filter pitcher (Britta, Pur) and it makes the water taste better---plus it's less expensive than buying water.

      Re: Question About Water

I've tried cold, room temperature, filtered, bottled, distilled.... everything.

I just can't stand plain water. It tastes very bitter and metallic to me no matter what type it is.

I mix my water with flavored club soda to about a 5:1 ratio (water to club soda). It helps with the taste, isn't very bubbly, and tastes much better than plain water.

I use a filter too and find that the PUR filter makes it taste clean and sweet/fresh (not in a sugary way)

I add Crystal Light to my water. It is frowned upon in this forum because it contains aspartame which stalls 20% of dieters, however, at least I get my water in me... Since I have started doing that my lips have been normal again. (They were peeling from dehydration before I started drinking the sweetened water.)

              Re: Question About Water

I use crystal lite as well but I use only a little so that it just flavours my water...then I drink lots! I end up using a couple of carbs to get alot of water into me. I even tried plain kool aid and added my own splenda but I really do not like the flavours they have so went back to crystal lite. If I drink 2 litres a day of it then that is 20 litres more water than I would have drank without it!!

                Okay. Thanks all.

I won't feel so guilty about a bit of lemon or unsweetened tea then.

once your tastebuds change (which happens on this plan) you might be surprised if you give it a real chance. I never liked water before but I drink 150 oz a day now NOTHING ADDED. Make sure you count the lemon toward your carb total for the day.

                    Re: Question About Water

Well, I'll keep checking to see if my taste buds change.

I've never really drank a lot of soda or juice. Once in a while. My main drink is water with a little bit of something in it: lemon or lime juice, regular juice or sparkling water stuff. I'm not having aspertane (sp?) anymore.

And I will count my lemon carbs. Thanks!

No, aspartame does not stall 20% of dieters. Or at least it was never shown to stall 20% of them. When Dr. Atkins was alive, about 25% of the stalled dieters who called his office were able to break their stall by giving up diet sodas sweetened with aspartame. Depending how many stalled Atkinseers called Dr. Atkins' office and how many started losing because they gave up diet sodas rather than aspartame, this number might decrease. We also don't know how many dieters experienced only a slowdown in weight loss because of aspartame, which might increase the percentage of Atkinseers whose weight loss rate is affected by aspartame (not necessarily stalled).

Lemon juice is limited to 2-3 tablespoons daily.

                        Re: Question About Water

Just be careful about flavoring your water......don't let it become an excuse for increasing the flavoring more and more and more. The taste fatigue is common for all of the 5 tastes, requiring a higher and higher amount to get the desired effect.

So if you flavor your water, you might want to slow taper the flavoring down to prevent taste fatigue and the need to continually flavor or increase the flavor.
