Is it common to have water weight on Atkins? Yesterday I weighed 178.8, today 179.2. Sigh. I had a bunch of salty stuff before bed so maybe that's why.

Usually you will start to lose the unecessary water weight on Atkins. Actually that happens on any diet and it happens when you up your water intake too. Your body will also retain fluid when you are not drinking enough.

However, I would not worry about water weight with the measurements you are getting. I just sent back a $175 doctors scale because the measurements were different all the time when it came to tenths of pounds. No scale is going to be as accurate when it comes to tenths of pounds as you want it to be. I talked to the people that made my scales, and they said there can be minor discrepancies when it comes to such minute readings. I'll just use my old doctor’s scale I already have and not worry if it is off by a ½ lbs.

Also, maybe you are retaining a little fluid. This can change several pounds in a day in most people. That is why you should weigh yourself the same time of day every time, and why you should not weigh yourself everyday. You will drive yourself crazy!

Thank you very much for your note. I really feel better. I was not going to weigh myself but alas, I'm quite a sucker for the scale. I'm really NOT going to do it this time until the 7th.

I lose 5-6 lbs every night!

That is I weigh 5-6 pounds more in the evening than in the morning I only weigh once a week too, our bodies go thru too many changes & fluctuations to reliably weigh more often - and even then, when I show a one pound loss one week, and three the next - I think that is at least partly a weighing error.
