  • Induction MUSTS

I have been trying Atkins for over a year now. These are the things I would like to share.

    # 1 - Ever heard of the phrase "By the book"? Memorize it. Use it. When you start wondering if you can have this or that or what amount of something is allowed, READ DANDR.

    # 2 - A little bite WILL hurt you. Yes, even a little.

    # 3 - If you don't follow the ENTIRE plan, A to Z, Induction to Lifetime Maintenance, you will NOT be successful. This includes the exercise portion of the program.

    # 4 - The search button goes a LOOOONNNNGGG way.

    # 5 - If you're not sure, DON'T eat it. Plain and simple.

    # 6 - The rules are NON-NEGOTIABLE. They were created and formatted with every scenario in mind, and they are the ONLY guidelines that will help you achieve success.

    # 7 - "I am doing Atkins, but I allow myself _____(insert non-Induction legal food here)". You are NOT doing Atkins. You are doing your own diet & obviously you don't know how to eat right, or you wouldn't be here to begin with.

    # 8 - Don't come here for "permission" or justification in cheating. Rules are rules. If you don't follow them, YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED. We do not condone a variance from the rules.

    # 9 - It bears repeating. RULES ARE RULES. The smallest variation from these rules WILL RESULT IN YOUR FAILURE. Yes, even a bite of cake or a sip of milk can toss you right off the wagon. And the more you fall off the wagon, the harder it is to get back on.

    # 10 - FOLLOW THROUGH. Just because you lose all the weight you want, does not give you license to return to the old eating habits that got you into the shape you were to begin with. If you truly follow all phases of the Atkins Program BY THE BOOK, you will have a new lifestyle & will be able to maintain your new shape.

Just one question. What are newbies allowed to ask?

yep definitely helps you succedd on Atkins. And that doing Atkins includes not only the exercise part but the part about asking your friends family, and coworkers to be a part of your support network if you want to be successful too.

Well as that commercial for that Drugstore goes in a perfect world after they read the book newbies should ask about anything they don't understand about the Atkins program or how folk already doing atkins handled certain issues they may encounter, but this isn't a perfect world.

            Happy low carbing.

Anyone is allowed to ask anything they wish. I never stated otherwise. But there is a pattern of people coming here & asking if its ok to "just have one piece of birthday cake" or wanting to know if they'll derail their progress if they drink alcohol. It's frustrating to me & I'm not even a mod! All I'm saying is, if you truly want to adopt this way of life, LEARN all you can about it. Help yourself, for goodness sakes! Some people come here without reading the book & ask a million questions that are right there in DANDR. Questions pertaining to something you don't understand is different than asking something that you already know the answer to.

My Sentiments Exactly! I do not mind answering questions, but so many people seem to use the board instead of the book. My husband does neither and calls it Atkins and it's extremely frustrating. If you do not read the book you will never see the big picture.

                        Well Said!

Now if only people would follow these guidelines, they could avoid so much anguish and experiance so much satisfaction and success.

Anything you want. Recommend that you try to find the answer in DANDR first. If you don't find it, or don't understand it, then feel free to come to the board.

As someone said earlier, the frustrations come when people ask very common questions that are plainly in the DANDR. I also find the stickies in the different forums answer a lot of questions, too.
