  • Oh noooooo!

Okay, so last night I had some breyers low carb ice cream, 4g of net carbs. This is my 5th day on atkins induction. I only had about a half a cup but i feel bad because i KNOW i shouldnt have had it. I just checked my ketostix and i am still in ketosis but i hope it does not stall me.

Also, I have been reading on alot of different atkins boards and I have heard conflicting information about exercising on induction. I know Dr. Atkins said you must exercise but I read that it actually slowed some peoples weight loss. I love doing Taebo and I did about 30 mins of it yesterday and i wanna know whether or not i should keep doing it.

Another thing, I am extremely bloated. I take a fiber supplement as well as eat high fiber vegetables. Could this bloating be from the fiber or that low carb ice cream. I just weighed myself and I gained 4oz. could that be from the bloating or the ice cream.

In my opinion the only reason not to exercise on induction is if you are feeling too weak (hit by what we call 'Induction 'Flu') to do so.

Hard exercising can make your body add 'water weight' but the benefits of exercise far outweigh this temporary seeming weight-gain.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

As for the icecream, it is probably OK to add home made lowcarb ice cream as your additional 5 net carbs of dairy on rung 1 of OWL, but most of the commercial 'lowcarb' products have unpronounceable ingredients and chemical sounding stuff in them, so I don't like to add them to my menus.

Make sure you are drinking enough water - fiber without adequate water has the opposite effect from what you'd expect fiber to do... It will also help you avoid retaining water and flush those unpronounceable ingredients out of your system. 64 oz is the bare minimum - plain, unflavoured water.

Muscle weighs more than fat - that is why it is important to measure as well as weigh - your weight may stay steady (or even go up a bit) as you gain muscle when your waist, arms, legs, etc are getting smaller - you are replacing fat with muscle - this is a good thing! Really hard exercise can cause temporary water retension in your muscles - this passes with a bit of time. I think most people will lose weight better when exercising than not.

Yes you can read all kinds of stuff out there. People tend to be very superstitions when in comes to losing weight. All kinds of different rules out there. Here we follow Atkins - and that is about it. Exercise makes muscles and since they are dense can sort of slow down loss but that is just stupid reasoning. Because you will look thinner, be thinner and have a fabulous metabolism on top of it which makes it easier to keep weight of when you reach goal. Also exercising can help raise your CCLL so you can enjoy more carby foods down the line.

Stay away from the ice cream. Ice cream and weightloss should not be in the same sentence. That thing may say only 5 carbs but it is loaded with sugar alcohols which some of us actually process like it is sugar and therefore we take in a lot of carbs when we eat it. My stomach gets completely wacky with sugar alcohols. I can maybe have a few at the time.
Don't weigh everyday. Give yourself a break. Take measurements.

              Re: Oh noooooo!

how many Atkins boards are you following? I'd make my mind up which one I can live with and stay on it .... we follow the 2002 edition of the DANDR book here - nothing else.....the Breyers Ice Cream is nothing but chemicals and aspartame --
              Breyers Ingredients Link: http://www.breyers.com/#/flavors/.

You also need to re-read the book and if nothing else read the induction stickies so you know what foods are acceptable and which aren't. I know it's not easy starting any new diet but we can't loose the weight for you -- that's something only you can do. To loose successfully you have to follow the rules the way they are written - not the way you want to follow them....that's why you're here to begin with.

Sorry if you think I'm being harsh but if you don't try it's hard for us to help you.

Whatever other boards say, it doesn't matter here. subscribes to DANDR 2002, not the heresay of what works for others. Dr. Atkins said that exercise is non-negotiable. Good enough for me. Lay off the low carb treats. They aren't on the acceptable food list or covered under the Rules of Induction.

I am only a member on this board i just read through the other ones. Thank you all for you input. I fairly new to this and i appreciate it. I will stick to only the foods on the acceptable foods list and continue to do my taebo (yay). Despite that low carb ice cream slip up, im still in ketosis. I have noticed that my appetite is almost completely gone. I find myself having to force myself to eat. I ate bacon and eggs this morning around 10, then i ate some tuna around 3 and its 10:40 at night and i am not hungry at all. I dont want the appetite suppression to backfire on my weight loss so i think i better eat now. I may have to schedule my meals and have 3 meals a day because thats all i may have an appetite for.
