  • Starting inductions today July 8th 2009

Hi everyone, I am starting my induction today and have a question. I did order the book but it isn't going to be here for a few days.

I have seen many of Kent's videos and found them very informative and have read over the atkins website. I am trying to figure out roughly how much food I should be eating in one day. For instance, I get up in the morning and have 4 eggs and 4 peices of bacon but I am hungry in an hour or even 30 minutes. Can I eat another 4 eggs if I wanted to? I know I have to eat the 2-3 cups of solid veggies! I guess what I am asking is can I eat as much no carb food as I want?

    Well......
It is not a gorge diet. So I recommend eating slowly and kind of listing to when you are full and then stop. Do not feel you always have eat what is on your plate - you need to tune into your body.
On the very first few days of induction it is normal to feel a little more hungry as we are leaving carbs and sugars behind and the body is searching for energy. In that period it is fine to keep feeding the body. This hungry phase (if you have it) should only last a couple of days. Then ketosis will kick in and you will feel full.

Remember to drink plenty of water. I know it sounds strange but we actually often confuse thirst and hunger so make sure you do not get dehydrated. On atkins we always drink water - more than we probably ever did before. Locate all toilets in your neighbourhood

Well, you don't want to make yourself sick but in all honesty I believe getting past the few 1st days of Induction can be kinda hard.Even if your pretty high in your cals,I say eat if your hungry. You can worry about your calories and such when ketosis kicks in and your just not hungry anymore. Get past these few days and see how you feel then.

Be careful about "no carb food" - there are carbs in eggs, bacon and almost everything else Fresh (nothing added) meat & fish are the only true no-carb foods (that I can think of...) The others are low carb. This also applies to processed/packaged foods listed as "0" carb - they can round down on the label if 1 serving has .49 carbs or less...

Welcome to our ADBB family, Kim

How did your first day go?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Hi and welcome to ADBB. We follow the 2002 DANDR book it would be very beneficial to buy a copy so you know what you’re doing. (check www.half.com or www.amazon.com for a cheap copy - mine was under $5.00 with shipping).

Here is a little information I hope will help get you started.

*Before you start take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of induction - there are too many variables daily and hourly that can cause your weight to change, so weighing at the end of induction is what Dr. Atkins suggested.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily.
*Drink plenty of pure water (nothing added ***– see below for more info).
            *Take your supplements and exercise
*Stay away from the shakes and bars (they aren’t legal on induction) and any processed or chemically enhanced foods – we eat whole foods.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page – it’s a condensed version of the DANDR book. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
            Filtered water
            Mineral water
            Spring water
            Tap water

*** Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sugar free kool-aid & diet sodas do not count they are chemically enhanced and most include aspartame (also not allowed on Atkins) – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

The recipe sites are a helpful way to make your meals more enjoyable – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
