  • day 2 of my induction

    Ok, here wwe go again....

Today is day 2 of my induction and so far I am feeling great. I do have a few more questions and I hate to be a pain.

My wife is doing the diet with me and she is have some trouble giving up the bread, so we got some low carb bread and it has 5 net carbs per piece. She eats 2 pieces with her eggs and bacon in the morning. Is it ok that she is eating the bread in the induction phase?

Also, I read that in order to find the net carbs you take the carbs and subtract the fiber from them, Right? Is that Dietary fiber and fiber?

Are we only allowed to eat what's on the acceptable foods list? For example green beans are not on it but If I want to count the 5.1 net grams as part of the 20 net grams I am allowed in a day. can I?

As of right now I am going by the atkins website because I am still waiting on my book.

Thanks and again, sorry for all the questions.

The Atkins website doesn't follow the rules in DANDR 2002...

Green beans are on the list (they're listed as string beans or something like that). You are only allowed to eat the foods on the acceptable foods list no matter how many or how few carbs are in it (low carb bread isn't on there).

Net Carbs = Total Carbs - Fibre (same as dietary fibre, only subtract it once)

Also, you should get more than half of your daily carbs from veggies. Hope this helps!

      Hi!

Green beans are allowed, I think they're on the list as "string beans." The bread isn't acceptable for the exact same reason - it has ingredients that aren't on the Acceptable List. Search this forum for "Revolution Rolls," they're fantastic as a bread substitute. And yeah, net carbs are total carbs minus fiber, but depending on where you live (UK vs US, etc) some listings already have the fiber subtracted, so then carbs = net carbs. If you're in the U.S. though, this isn't really a problem. Best of luck to you and your wife!

          Thank for the info.
Is the acceptable food list the same in the dandr 2002?

Now, i'm getting worried that we are doing this wrong. last 2 days we have been eating: Breakfast, 4 scrambled eggs with 1 piece of american cheese and 3 pieces of bacon, Dinner, chicken that's in a gravy mix and it has no carbs in the whole thing, 1 cup of lettuce, 1/2 cup of cucumber, 2 pinches of chedder cheese, hardboiled egg, and a small amount of onions. for a snack I had 2 string cheese. tomorrow I am making taco salad without the tortilla. Does this sound like we are on the right track?

Re: day 2 of my induction

I would be weary of the gravy mix on induction and as for the cheese, just make sure its not more than 4 oz total. One slice of american is 1 oz, but you should try to eat cheddar, instead of american, it is my understanding that it is processed and therefore not allowed on induction.

It also sounds like you only have about 1.5 - 2 cups of veggies. You have to consume more, either 3 cups on the first list, or 2 cups of the first list and 1 cup on the second list of veggies in the acceptable food list. and your carbs for the remander of the day have to be less than what your carbs are from the veggies, so for example if you eat your veggies and it is 8 carbs, you can only eat 7 carbs from all other food, etc. etc.

If i stated anything wrong, please correct me, Im new as well, but this is what ive learned from you all so far!!

Re: day 2 of my induction

ok - you really need to read the acceptable foods list - if a food is NOT on that list you DO NOT put it into your mouth. Gravy mix, American Cheese and low carb bread is NOT on the list so it is NOT allowed on induction. Your wife needs to make a clean break from bread - induction is the time to break addictions.

Here is information I send to new members. PLEASE read it - you only have 1 time to loose a good amount of your weight on induction -- please do it correctly or you'll be one of the nay-sayers telling people Atkins doesn't work...it does work and there are plenty of us who are living proof but we did the plan by the book.

We follow the 2002 DANDR book .

*Before you start take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of induction - there are too many variables daily and hourly that can cause your weight to change, so weighing at the end of induction is what Dr. Atkins suggested.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily.
*Drink 64 oz of pure water (nothing added ***– see below for more info).
              *Take your supplements and exercise
*Stay away from the shakes and bars (they aren’t legal on induction) and any processed or chemically enhanced foods – we eat whole foods.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page – it’s a condensed version of the DANDR book. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/

IF A FOOD IS NOT LISTED ON THE ACCEPTABLE FOODS LIST IT DOES NOT GO INTO YOUR MOUTH DURING INDUCTION.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
              Filtered water
              Mineral water
              Spring water
              Tap water

*** Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sugar free kool-aid & diet sodas do not count they are chemically enhanced and most include aspartame (also not allowed on Atkins) – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

The recipe sites are a helpful way to make your meals more enjoyable – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

You are on the right track. Just read lables carefully. CAREFULLY. Even if a product says 0 carbs it may not be legal. It is the ingredient list that matter. The gravy mix may have had starches - so I would be careful.

But Breakfast looked good - avoid processed cheeses - they are carby

What happened to lunch? Don't skip meals - it makes your metabolism slow down and often results in either mindless snacking or over eating.

Watch cheese limits - around 100 gram (112 maybe) but NO MORE

                Taco salad sounds good

It looks like you guys are working it. Keep it up

I was wrong the chicken was not in gravy it was in broth which is on the acceptable food list.

we are still getting use to the diet so It may take us a few days to get everything straight. My wife is no longer eating bread. We cut out the caffeine.

I didn't see any of these messages until now and we did weigh ourselves. Supposedly I'm down 6.2 lbs and My wife is down 8.4 lbs! I was curious to see if I was getting anywhere. We won't weigh ourselves again until the end of the induction. Ainge (my wife-she is not on here) is feeling really sick today (Flu like). I was told this is normal.

My dandr book is still not here. It said it wasn't shipped until yesterday...ugh

Thanks again for all the great advice...
