  • Not in Ketosis?

Im on day 8 of induction. I have been doing everything by the book and doing taebo everyday. For the last two days i have registered negative on my ketostix and have been the same weight for the last two days. I have lost 5lbs so far. I was wondering what is the problem.

    age:21
    height: 5'6
    sw: 163
    cw: 158
    gw: 140

    Congrats on your loss.

There isn't a problem as long as you are following the Induction Plan exactly. The ketostix only measure excess ketones. so if you aren't producing excess ketones, those stix will register zero.

sachet I have never shown any color on the keotsis sticks and have lost over 30 pounds.....they are not the "be all and end all" of the plan....if you are loosing weight don't worry.

I am not losing weight. I have been stuck at one weight for 3 days now. I have a goal to lose 23lbs by Aug 24th, when my senior year of undergrad starts. Do you think that is enough time or am i pushing it?

Eggs, bacon, sausage, devilled eggs, steak, chicken, broccoli, cheddar cheese, green giant mixed frozen veggies, lots of water...I did cheat like 3 days ago and had some low carb ice cream but I haven't cheated since.

I forgot a few things. I also had tuna salad, grilled salmon and salmon patties that I coated in crushed pork rinds to fry in olive oil

                  Re: Not in Ketosis?

It's normal not to lose weight every day.

Also, we can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight we need to lose during the first 14 Days of Induction. For a person with a 100 pound weight loss goal, that is about 5-10 pounds. For a person with a 10 pound weight loss goal, that is about 1/2 to 1 pound.

Atkins isn't a "quick fix"----no healthful diet is.

                    You are doing great
No-one loses weight in a smooth downward curve, there will be downs, ups and no movement of the scales at all the whole Atkins journey

The important thing is to lose FAT, which is not always shown on the scales. We have had members who lost no weight at all for several weeks but lost several dress sizes!

Maybe you need to change your focus to dropping dress sizes instead of a number of pounds - after all are you really going to tell all your friends what weight you are when you get to school? No - you will be showing them your size, not your number on that metal monster.

Many Atkineers report that they end up a smaller size at a higher weight than they did before Atkins, so the scales are not really important to see if you have lost fat and toned your body.

I often wish people were not so keen on setting 'lose xx pounds by xx/xx/xxx' goals, as their bodies will not always co-operate. Better to set goals you can achieve by your efforts like:
Eat on-plan for xx days without straying off-plan
Exercise for x days a week
Drink xx ounces of plain water
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                      hey sachet

                      DONT PANIC!
you will loose it...trust me. Know how i know?
5 pounds in 8 days! your obviously way over your 5-10% estimated loss in induction Atkins predicted. So let me just say your body is very responsive.

                      ok...
You cheated on induction 3 days ago you say?
Atkins in his book says when you cheat on induction and go even slightly out of ketosis, it takes AT LEAST three days of induction-esque eating to get back into this state. Expect a 3-7 day lag each time you cheat in induction for ketosis to kick in again.

Although the low carb ice-cream may be under 20 carbs, there is a lot of info on this site written about how heaps of people have reported stalls in OWL from these products. The artificial sweetening chemicals these products contain may affect your body the same way real sugar does...eeek! the article bellow explains it very well

                        Re: Not in Ketosis?

Thanks for all the advice. Im back in ketosis whether that matters or not. Im young and yes i do obsess about my weight, mainly because i used to be 132lbs and over the course of 2yrs of eating dorm food, pizza at 3am, and a ton of beer ive gained weight. Im just going to keep going by the book, working out, and not stepping on the scale every 5 mins.
