    Hello!

Just started Induction today... I feel like crud... no energy and don't want to do anything! Is this normal? I think it probably is... just want to make sure. Can I drink a diet coke??

    Thanks!

I'm on extended induction and I drink Diet Coke. Count it as a carb and one of your sweeteners.

      I also drink coffee

        Re: Day One Induction

the feeling like crap is normal...but watch the soda - caffeine is not allowed on induction (no matter who says they drink it) and should be avoided. You are suppose to be breaking old habits and sodas are old habits.

Here is some info that will help you -- you need to read the 2002 DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book because you would know the answer to the question you ask if you had read it....good luck to you.

It would be very beneficial to buy a copy of the DANDR book so you know what you’re doing. (check www.half.com or www.amazon.com for a cheap copy - mine was under $5.00 with shipping).

*Before you start take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of induction - there are too many variables daily and hourly that can cause your weight to change, so weighing at the end of induction is what Dr. Atkins suggested.

*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily.

*Drink 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added ***– see below for more info).

        *Take your supplements and exercise

*Stay away from the shakes and bars (they aren’t legal on induction) and any processed or chemically enhanced foods – we eat whole foods.

Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page – it’s a condensed version of the DANDR book. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
        Filtered water
        Mineral water
        Spring water
        Tap water

*** Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sugar free kool-aid & diet sodas do not count they are chemically enhanced and most include aspartame (also not allowed on Atkins) – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

The recipe sites are a helpful way to make your meals more enjoyable – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

          Re: Day One Induction

Welcome! Yes, the first few days are the worst. By day 4, I felt great! If you are going to give in and drink a soda, try to find the diet coke with Splenda instead of Apartame. Good luck!

            Re: Day One Induction

I feel crummy about 3-4 days into Induction then I start to feel much better.

As for the coke...Though Dr. Atkins says no to the caffeine,I just don't know many ppl that have given up their coffee or sodas. I believe its YMMV(your mileage may vary) type thing. Some can give up the diet sodas cold turkey but others are taking it little by little. I know for me I have a diet soda occasionally cause it doesn't stall me. Good luck to you!

              Re: Day One Induction

              Hi,

I also started on the induction phase too (again) today. Originally I started on 5th, although had a upsetting set back the following day.

I wish you lots of luck on your journey.

(I also had coffee today-I thought you could have it as long as it didn't trigger a craving?? - Someone please correct me if I'm wrong TY)
