  • question about the first two days or so

So...if you do atkins for two days, do u immediatley start losing weight since day 1? Aren't our bodies so shocked to have so muh fat that they don't lose weight till all the carbs are used? Lets pretend i did atkins for 2 or 3 days then ate normal healthy and then again and again. even tho im not doing this...im just curious what happens during the first 2 days of induction.like..regarding weight loss and such.

Get another copy of the book, so you can have it with you to read up on whatever you read here. The book is your user's manual----it's really not wise to not have it with you to help you troubleshoot problems or explain things to you.

Secondly, it takes your body about 48-72 hours to use up the glycogen. So, if you go on Atkins for 2 days and go back to eating the lousy-weight-gaining diet you were previously on, you aren't going to see any difference in your weight loss.

As for "eating normal and healthy", this is one of my GREATEST pet-peeves about the UTTER LIES and MISCONCEPTIONS people have about this diet---and it's usually from people who haven't bothered to understand or read the book. So I'm shocked that you would even write that nonsense, since you have said you have read the book.

Atkins is a diet based on eating whole, minimally processed foods. I don't see how that is "unhealthy". Likewise, I don't see how it's healthy to poison your body with added sugars, refined non-nutritive grains/grain products and artificial fats.

I'm not. :sarcasm From her other posts, she seems to not have a clue. I don't believe she's read the book cover to cover. She'll claim to have read the book, then post something like "I HAVE to drink alcohol this weekend. No one's going to change my mind. But will it affect my weight loss?"

            :sarcasm

Laurenad - You were my inspiration for my post entitled "Induction Musts". :nod Check it out here in the 14 day induction forum. I think you need it. :nod

              Not2late,

You are so patient...so very very patient!
Laurenad if you are serious about this way of eating get another book...don't make more excuses please. Hey if you can't afford another one...I am sure there are libraries around and you can check the book out....and that would be free.

u guys misinterpreted my question. Just bc i ask a question does not mean im just eating whatever i want..im just curious..after one day...if u were to weigh urself..like what would the scale usually say. Im interested in the science behind it. Im not saying im eating atkins then non atkins and bak on. i was just simply curious if anyone would answer after one day what happens to ur body and the scale..why the scale reads the way it does. please understand i am very interested in atkins and just want to know even more about it..i did read the book. a few times actually. Just curious what happens after ONE day and why the numbers go down if they do for some and not for others or what happens bc i enver weigh after 1 day. JUST CURIOUS!!!! :sadblinky

I think what happens after one day is highly individual, as is the rest of the diet. If you show losses after one day I would assume every bit of it was water weight.

on any weight loss program your cals in are less then your cals expended and your body goes looking for make up cals to meet its demands. the first place it looks is organ stored glycogen after the muscle stored glycogen is used up. folk who have been eating norma; have large stores folks who have jst changed from one diet plan to another don't have the maximim amount their bodies could store. When the glycogen stores are gone if your are not insulin resistant your body will triiger the release of the fat stores. How long that takes will depend on how high your cals burned total is and your individual metabolism.

I did answer the question. You won't see any real weight loss (ie fat loss) because it takes 48 to 72 hours for your body to get into ketosis. If there is any "weight" changes it's due to water retention or water diuresis.

Dr. Atkins explains it in the section of the Maintenance Chapter called "Uses and Abuses of Induction"----so when you get your book back or get a new book you can re-read that section.

Seriously Lauren, you are doing yourself a great disservice by not having that book with you. Dr. Atkins explained his diet more thoroughly and more clearly than anyone of us here can. What you're getting here is the Cliff Note version of the diet and as your professors will tell you, reading the Cliff Notes isn't the same as reading the real book.

So do yourself a favor and have your mom mail your copy to you or borrow a copy from the library.
