  • Day 2 - Exhausted!!

    Hi all.
New to this so hang in there with me if I ask silly questions!

Started the induction phase yesterday, went the gym and was fine. Got towards the end of the day and i got an awful migraine. Went to bed and slept it off for the night.

Woke up this morning, really quite tired. Been in work today and felt really exhasuted and tired, almost nodding off! Had intended on going the gym but couldn't bring myself to do it for fear of dozing off on the treadmill!!

Anyways, question is - should i really be getting side effects so soon? It's only day 2! Could this be down to the fact i'm completely coming down from a pretty carb-rich diet and also completely cut out drinking diet coke after drinkin the stuff all the time??

    Cheers!

Yup, you are in the process of depleting your glycogen. Within a very short time, you will begin to feel better. I remember that in about 12 days after going totally low carb, I felt better than I ever did before. Your body will make a metabolic change and begin to burn fat instead of sugars. Your testosterone, growth hormone and IGF-1 factors will rise dramatically. Make sure you are supplementing with healthy oils like fish oil and Flax seed oil. Careful on the flax oil, because it can produce very negative health effects. In fact, these oils can even promote certain types of cancer if rancid. Google it. Just make sure you buy organic, refined oils and promptly refrigerate them upon opening. They should last about 6 weeks or so in the fridge.

Are you ready for this one buddy? My 6 rep squat, free weight, has increased by 70 lb in the last six weeks. Low carbing, with the right insulin spiking, can give you results very similar to anabolic steroids.

About the insulin spiking, look it up. This forum is for Atkins Diet. I'll get shot if I mention cyclic ketogenic diets.

The Atkins diet, with all its rungs, is possibly the best diet, better, life style change, conceived by man. Just remember to try to take in enough fat and make the fat choices healthy ones. I'm not a big fan yet of eating many milligrams of cholesterol, even if you are training aerobically or anaerobically. I tend to be prudent on that one.

      Yes, what he said!

Hang in there - you will feel great shortly! I was a complete sugar and caffeine junkie, but I felt pretty good by day 4 and really good by day 6. Also, I had to ween myself from caffeine. I had 1-2 diet pepsi's for the first several days...then 1 every two days...now I haven't had one in over a week.

      Good luck!!

Between going into Ketosis & caffeine withdrawl, I felt crappy for about a week. It is not too early for either caffeine withdrawl or ketosis (happens faster for some people)

Also, make sure you are counting your carbs properly...I found that when I dropped too low (like less than 5) in my carb count, I would get horrible headaches. Make sure to have your allotted amount of veggies.

Thanks for all your support & advice guys, all very useful!

Really didn’t expect to feel so rough if I’m honest, did the Atkins a few years back and worked a treat. No induction flu at all, felt great and lost 2 stone over a month and a bit. This time though I feel awful – today even worse than yesterday! As well as being really really tired, I feel really bloated today, and the thought of eating anything turns my stomach! I know it’s just a phase though and it’ll pass, but got a feeling the day ahead is gunna be a really tough one!

Hey paulD - I hope you're feeling a bit better?

I have suffered from induction 'flu' twice out of the few times I have done it, and it was awful - crabby, headachey, lacklustre, no energy - and I truly believe it was from sugar and caffeine withdrawal - a couple of ibuprofen, lots of water and waiting a few days, and I felt amazing!
Stick with it, it must be part of the detox process, as NeutronNorman explains so much better than me! You'll be on top of the world before long.

Make sure you have some yummy Induction foods around. I've seen many people having problems around days 2-4, when the "yuckiness" of the "Induction flu" is at its peak. Also drink enough water and take your supplements.

How is today going? As bad as you anticipated or did it get better?

Just hang in there. You should feel better tomorrow and soon the extra energy will kick in.

But, i've stayed strong and not strayed and kept my water intake up so hopefully i'll wake up a bit better tomorrow! So, off to bed now and fingers crossed i'll be good tomorrow!

Now, where did i put those headache tablets....
