You read this in DANDR? I think the information is not complete, because Atkins being a high fat diet Dr. Atkins would not have said high fat diets cause colon cancer.

Anyway, I have something different on page 208 ("Lifetime Maintenance"). Can you tell me the Chapter?

I don't have the Atkins for life book. I have the dandr book and on page 208 it says there was a study done by the FDA:

"All of the publicly available evidence supports the conclusion that diets high in fat increase the risk of cancer, and more importantly the diets low in fat are associated with the reduced risk of cancer"

Basically saying that high fat diets increase your chances of getting cancer not cause it. I should have phrased it better. It still makes me a little weary.

      Should I be?

What do your book say georgiana?

We must be taking about different books, there's no such thing written in DANDR 2002. What is the name and number of the chapter?

By the way, I wasn't talking about "Atkins for Life", but about the "Lifetime Maintenance" chapter in DANDR 2002.

Nope, that's not on page 208 in my 2002 DANDR (nor in any part of the book). Why would Dr. A put us on a high fat diet, then warn us it would increase our risk of cancer?

Hi Kim What version of DANDR do you have - publisher, date of publication etc? I have several copies, all slightly different and can see if I can find the bit you are talking about (if I have the same version as you have).
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Also, your original post mentioned specifically colon cancer, but this quote isn't limited to colon cancer. There has to be a disconnect here somewhere.

                  Good catch, Slapshot.

And as a matter of fact, if you look up "cancer risks" in the Index of DANDR, it will refer you to page 83, which says:

"Interestingly, it has also been shown that reducing your glycemic load appears to diminish your risk of developing colo-rectal cancer. One likely reason is that cancer cells feed off of sugar. Another possibility is that sugar may compromise the integrity of the intestinal tract. Moreover, hyperinsulism, in response to a high-glycemic load, may increase risk of cancer. Furthermore, recent studies on women who have had breast cancer have shown a better survival rate and a decreased incidence of recurrence than women with higher insulin levels."

No where does it indicate that fat increases your risk of cancer... sugar is the enemy.
