  • I can't believe I was this dumb!!!

    I'm on day 10 of induction, and everything has been going great. Yesterday I decided to pick up some caffeine free diet soda (sweetened with splenda) from Publix. I poured myself a nice big (probably 24 ounce) glass of it. Well after I had finished it, I saw the 2 liter bottle on the counter, and it was NOT diet . I had picked up the wrong one by mistake. I think it was about 90 carbs. I was sooo upset last night. I wonder how long that mistake will set me back.

    Ooops... Just keep going. With the 90 carbs you had, the charts of metabolic resistance will not apply to you as your metabolic resistance will be overestimated, but nothing will make the carbs go away, so there's little you can do now. Drink a lot of water and exercise---the exercise will help you burn those carbs faster and get back into ketosis. Watch out for cravings and make sure you have "legal" food around.

    By the way, 24 oz of diet soda is the most you can have in one day, assuming you are not eating/drinking any other sweet stuff. And just because we can have 3 servings of sweetener (1 serving of soda is 8 oz, so 24 oz is 3 servings of sweetener), it does not mean we have to. Try changing your eating habits from the roots. Your health will benefit more from this than from simply substituting carby junk with low carb junk.

    Were you planning to stay longer in Induction or move to OWL? How much weight do you have to lose?

      I will definitely up the water and get some extra exercise today. I've been so thirsty lately. Yesterday I probably drank 130-140 ounces of water. I haven't had anything else sweet (legal or illegal) since I started. Soda's really the only bad thing I've been craving, probably because (prior to Atkins) I drank way too much of it. I'll try to ditch the soda for decaf herbal tea.
      I'm 5'6" and currently weigh 158.8. My goal weight is 130. I didn't weigh myself before starting induction, but have lost three pounds since I weighed in three days ago. I've been using fitday, which has been really helpful.
      I hate that I accidentally cheated, and in such a big way! Thanks for your encouragement

        Since you have only 30 lbs to lose, I guess extending the Induction phase was not in you plans. In principle you have enough time to get back into ketosis by your last day of Induction, but if this doesn't happen and/or your appetite won't be yet back under control after this accident, do a few extra days of Induction until things get back to "normal".

        Herbal tea is a good substitute for diet sodas. It can actually even help with cravings and for some teas you won't need any sweetener. Check this recipe posted by not2late: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...lly-sweet.html
