    Re: Just one fruit??

Cheating is the kiss of failure on this diet. You can have fruits when you get to the appropriate rung of OWL. Believe me, the fruit would bring you about 10 minutes of enjoyment, but the feeling that you let yourself down would last for much, much longer. Be strong.

    Start date: 03/14/09
    Goal #1 - 260 - Met 04/12/09! Goal #4 - 230 - Met 08/03/09!
    Goal #2 - 250 - Met 05/22/09! Goal #5 - 220 - Met 01/29/10 FINALLY!
    Goal #3 - 240 - Met 06/20/09! Goal #6 - 210

You are suppose to be learning new habits and getting rid of bad ones. The plum and/or peach is full of sugar - your body is craving anything sweet so it's going to give you fits until you either give in or get past the craving. Yes, 1 plum or 1 peach will set you back.

It's up to you but you only have 1 chance of doing a clean induction -- the fruit isn't worth it!

It is 2 weeks of induction and a few weeks after that til you get to the berry rung. Really try to hang in there.

What the others have said---no plums, peaches, etc. until the appropriate OWL rungs.

Try some pumpkin instead, with a bit of cream cheese and sweetener.
Or jicama (tastes a little like apples).
Chayote squash is a decent substitute for apples.
Rhubarb, stewed and sweetened with Splenda is also a good fruit substitute.

And you can top stuff with heavy cream (remember the Induction limits on it), for a nice dessert.

Yes, everyone is right. You really, really have to wait.

BUT I can recommend that you start moving up the rungs as early as appropriate for you. I am currently on the nut rung and looking forward to berries very soon. It is worth the wait. I enjoy skipping extended induction and even though it may slow my weight loss a little bit, it is worth it for the extra variety in my eating habits.
            149.8/no weigh/ 119

            1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
            rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
            rung 4 - berries, melon
            rung 5 - wine -
            rung 6 - beans, hummus
            rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
            Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
            (on to pre-maintenance)

              Re: Just one fruit??

As well as the 'fruit-type' veggies on the induction list I find that red and yellow peppers, cherry tomatoes and celery taste sweet to me and give me that crisp clean flavour.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Plums and peaches aren't on the Induction Acceptable Foods List. During Induction----if you want to do Atkins Induction successfully---you eat only what's on that List.

I think you need to sit down and really assess your situation. If you cannot possibly "live" without fruits for 14 days, then Atkins might not be for you. I say this with the best of intentions because if you cannot stand the food or if you feel deprived during any weight loss diet, the chances of success will be lowered severely and you will only meet with disappointment, anger and frustration.

However, if you believe Atkins is the diet for you, you should commit yourself to doing it the proper way and giving it your 100% best effort.

You may decide to cheat, but call it what it is and don't expect that people who give advice based on Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 will sign off on having stuff that isn't on the Acceptable Induction Food List.

It would be better to break your sugar cravings than have the fruit. When you begin OWL, there are more options.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
