  • Introduction and 2nd Induction advice?

    Hello,

I'm new to the board, and thought I would introduce myself. My name's Sarah, I'm almost 34, 5'3", and about to begin ANA day after tomorrow.

Yes, I have DANDR. Yes, I have read DANDR. Only once all the way through, but I've referred to it several times. I once did ANA before, in March 2003. I didn't know then what I know now, about stalls and plateaus and PATIENCE. :sadblinky I allowed myself to get discouraged by my less than stellar results (lost 4 lbs during Induction) and compared them to all the stories. Then my doctor told me it was unhealthy :anger and to add back good portions of fruit, at least, if not whole grains, and to watch the fat I was eating. Yeah, we all know how THAT advice works (or at least, I know!). But I followed it, and then became insulin resistant. So now take metformin daily. And no longer go to that doctor. :icondance

My goal is to lose 154 pounds -- but really that is just the umbrella. My goals are: 1) to run a marathon, 2) to buy clothes in a regular-sizes store, 3) to see myself in the mirror and not get suprised by how big I am, 4) to improve my health, and 5) I really want to learn how to eat in moderation AND enjoy all of God's bounty. So that's what stage 4 Lifetime Maintenance is all about. I just need to get there. I better add that I'm impatient -- or did I already say that? lol! :hug

Anyway, hello to all, and thanks for having this forum. I have hardly begun exploring. Any advice for doing Induction the 2nd time around??

    Hi Sarah!
I'm Misty and I'm new on here too. Almost at the end of Day 5 and it has gone smoothly so far. I love your goals! :joy I also certainly understand about being impatient. I'm usually a I wanted it yesterday sort of person. Unfortunately the weight didn't come on overnight but with the success that so many people on this board have had I bet we'll both see results in time.
    Good Luck to you!

welcome to the boards...my advice is to stock up on lots of induction friendly foods, drink lots of water, take your vitamins, be prepared for the induction flu in the first few days and start exercising...good luck

What is insulin resistant? ensive Sorry, I'm curious.

As for the second time around, this is only my first time around. I'm trying hard to stay off the scale. I only weighed in once (day because a cake was calling my name....but we shall see what my final 14 day results are.

My best advice in general is try to focus on the positive and try not to get discouraged.

What helps me MOST not to cheat is thinking about the steak smothered in butter and bleu cheese that I had for dinner. To have cake on top of it? OMG, heart attack waiting to happen.

I'm feeling cruddy about my body right now but still trying to focus on the positive and trying to remember that I didn't gain this in 14 days either.

            Hi!

Misty, thank you, good luck to you too! I'm having my first Atkins breakfast, although I won't be doing a "clean" Induction until tomorrow or Sunday -- have some tomato juice to finish up. But breakfast this morning is 3 eggs, 1/2 c. cooked sausage, 2 oz. cheddar, and 1 glass tomato juice. Oh yeah, and coffee. That will go, too, but not today.

Thanks, hulagrl1120! My fridge is stocked, I need to boil a bunch of eggs to have on hand. But I cooked up all the breakfast sausage yesterday so I woulnd't have to take time for that in the mornings. And I've already started exercising -- about a week ago, a friend recommended the new Taebo Capture the Power system, so I got it. It's really fun! Even *I* can manage the moves, they are broken downso that even the rank beginner (right here!) can manage them. Fun! :joy

Hi, 2big4mysize, thank you! I'll check out those boards and challenges, that sounds like a good idea! I found the century club, already. :yikes

Hi, sassygoddess13 -- I am giving you MY definitin of insulin resistant. AS I understand it, it's one of the precursors to being diagnosed "pre-diabetic." When my body produces insulin, the cells that are SUPPOSED to use it don't, they are resistant to it (too many sugars in my past, too many HIGH doses of sugars in my past, both), so my body produces MORE insulin, which becomes an overproduction. The metformin does something like make the cells that use the insulin more sensitive to it.

As for the scale -- I have to stay away from that thing, otherwise I check obsessively every day, sometimes multiple times per day. Ugh! So I plan to measure myself this weekend, then I'll weigh again (my CW is about 3 weeks old), then I'll put the scale away until May. I think that's one way not for me to get discouraged -- then I can't compare my results with other people's.

I know what you mean about feeling cruddy about your own body, but it's totally true, that the weight didn't come on in 14 days. My weight came on over 4 years, then not for 2 years, then over 4 years. BUT I have to be honest -- I sure hope it doesn't take 10 years to take it off!! It might though, given my results earlier. Ahh, well, this is a WOL, right? Taht's why the scale goes -- I'm so tired of it being part of my life! LOL :joy

Thanks everyone!! Good luck to us all!

Re: Introduction and 2nd Induction advice?

              Hi All,
I'm back for the second time, and just noticed my last post was around jan/05. Having trouble with breakfast on induction. Can't remember what suited last time, just remember getting real sick of eggs! Gained 10 lbs that need to 'go' again. Anyone have any good breakfast suggestions??
