  • Really need some advice. Please read.

    So, I restarted on Tuesday(after a year of being off).. making today day 5. I have only lost 2.4 pounds, well less than that as of today... it went back up to only a 2 pound loss I don't know what it is.

    I have done this before...I know what to eat so my menus are spot on, I'm drinking plenty of water, I'm not on any medication...I'm just at a complete loss right now. But my ketosticks are almost black they are SO dark, so I just don't get this!!!
    Oh and I chart my cycles every month and I'm not due for my TOM this month for another 2 weeks. I really wish I could figure this out. Could I be starting to gain for TOM already?

    I'm in this for life...so if I'm going to have to lose slowly, then so be it...but something just doesn't seem right to me. I lose barely anything and then the scale goes up...I'm just at a loss b/c this has never happened to me before.

    Can you post your menu on what you had for two days? Are you using fitday also to count calories/carbs?

      i wouldnt worry about it. its only been 5 days! if you're in this for life and you're doing it right, then it happens when it happens, and every time you do induction it will be different. my first time on atkins i lost about 30lbs in 2.5 months, mostly in a steady straight down line. this time, i stalled and gained bigtime my 3rd week, and it wasnt until week 5 i started losing what i thought i ought to be losing. even with that, there was a month back there i think in may where i only lost 5lbs the whole month.

        Oh yes, I loveee fitday. I dont know how I would perfect my ratios without it. LOL

        So here are my menus:

        Breakfast: (had this both days)
        3 scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 1/3 cup sauteed mushrooms and 1 oz of shredded cheddar cheese. I also allow myself one tbsp of sugar free ketchup, which I count towards my sweetner allotment.

        Lunch:
        7/16- 2 cans of tuna with 3 tbsp of mayo and 1 cup on lettuce to wrap
        7/17- 3 hard boiled eggs & 3 tbsp of mayo

        Dinner:
        7/16- large chicken breast, 1 cup of cucumbers, 1 cup of broccoli
        7/17- Taco Salad- 4oz ground beef, 2oz cheddar cheese, 1 cup lettuce, 1/3 cup tomatoes, 3 T salsa (no sugar), 1.5 oz sour cream

        **I did want to note that I allowed myself on can of diet rite lastnight, and I didn't include 20 thin pepperoni slices I had as a snack.
        Fitday:
        *7/16-*
        1499 calories
        63% Fat
        33% Protein
        4% Carbs


        *7/17-*
        1700 calories
        61% fat
        35% protein
        5% carbs
        * I do realize it adds to 101%, but it's what fitday says so I'm writing it. lol

          how much is "plenty of water" -- one of the reasons your sticks are dark is not enough water intake daily. You should be drinking a minimum of 64 ounces of PURE water (nothing added) daily. Are you getting that much in?

            Oh yes, sorry I forgot to add that. I always drink more than 64 oz a day..I aim for between 70-100. The 16th was 96oz and 17th was 72oz.

              Stephanie, are you feeling discouraged for losing "only" 2.5 lbs because you've lost more other times you did Atkins? There are many reasons why this might happen: pregnancies (if any since last time you did Atkins), age (often slows things down), higher metabolic resistance. I think the first two are clear. The third one, higher metabolic resistance, can a consequence of going on and off Atkins. I don't know how many times you restarted and how many cheats you had in your previous attempts, but if you did it a lot of times... it could have affected your metabolism.

              Anyway, 2.5 lbs is not bad at all. You're day 5, so assuming you're weighing in the morning (before eating, drinking water, etc.), you had basically "weighed" your work for the first 4 days. I imagine it took you at least 2 days to get into ketosis. So you've lost 2.5 lbs in 2 days of ketosis. Not bad at all!

              You're probably doing everything right. Stay away from the scale if it drives you nutty. I know you took body measurements before, so I'm guessing you are also doing that now---good for you! The .5 lbs weight gain should be just a normal weight fluctuation from too much sodium, more soluble fiber, food that takes longer to digest, etc. Some women also gain weight around the time they ovulate; since you're 2 weeks before TOM, it's possible that this has affected your weight loss rate as well.

                Thank you so much for that very helpful post. You hit the nail on the head and addressed every issue I probably have been having. I had my daughter in 2007, tried atkins for a few months and that's been it. I HAVE tried Atkins about 5 times ( 4 times to many =/ ). I never knew that about ovulation...I chart my cycles now but have been on bc pills off and on for 10 years..so I never realized that. Thank you!

                You're right, I am going to stay off the scale for now and keep pushing. Hopefully my metabolism works out it's kinks. And thank you for making me feel SO darn proud of my 2 pounds I lost, I needed that.
