  • Cheat???????

I don't know if this considered a cheat. I'm on day 10 of induction. I didn't eat much today - just wasn't that hungry, no other reason.

But tonight after dinner I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLY wanted chocolate. I remembered I had some Russell Stover low carb (.7 net carbs) candy. I had two small pieces and stopped there.

Is this a cheat? Should I be worried?

I know technically it's not in the book and all so I'm just wondering what your take on it is.

At the very least, I'm proud of myself for stopping at 2.

Russel Stovers - however good they may be - are not induction friendly. I don't even believe they are Atkins friendly... I'll have to look up on this

But anywho, If you're wanting chocolate Mix up some unsweetened cocoa powder, splenda, & cream cheese the place drops onto a parchment paper and freeze. These will melt in your mouth - but be careful cuz its easy to go over board with these.

spazzy: do you have the "cream cheese danish" recipe? I was looking for it in my book and can't find it.

        1 oz cream cheese, softened
        1 egg
        1 splenda packet
        dash of cinanmon
        dash of vanilla

using an electric mixer (cuz it blends better this way) mix all ingredients in small bowl, then microwave. I like doing it for 1:25 cuz it gets the perfect consistancy for me but you can nuke it longer or shorter depending on your preference

I like putting some butter on top after all is said and done, just tastes yummy

Some also like to put a little bit of flax seed in it to give a more grainy taste and it helps keep you regular. To me it just takes away from the idea of this being a desert.

mmm that is so good - I love having them that way. Whats also good is mashing up some avocado on a steak - very tasty.

Let's just think about this for a second. If you didn't eat much today, that sounds to me like your blood sugars might have gotten a little out of whack....and this is what probably triggered your wild craving for chocolate. Having this strong a craving is a signal to you that you need to correct something...whether that is to remove something from your diet, or in this case, make sure you are eating something at least every 6 hours or so, or having a few small snacks now and then to keep your blood sugars level.

Check the ingredients list on the wrapper...are all the ingredients induction friendly? If not then yes, it was a cheat...but as you say you only had 2 pieces. This is a slippery slope though, because a person can get it in their mind that 'two pieces isn't going to hurt', and pretty soon two pieces becomes four, and the cheats start happening every day with just a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

There are lots of things that are Induction friendly that you could have chosen to have instead...like whipped cream with splenda, or creamcheese mixed with cocoa and splenda (and frozen in bite sized pieces...yum!) but I urge you to think about why you had such a wild craving, and what you can do to avoid this.

Moochi is right, the candy really is a slippery slope. I started doing this very same thing with the candy you mentioned. 2 pieces led to 4 which led to the entire small bag.....which led me right back to sneaking cookies in the middle of the night with a glass of milk. I welcomed back three pounds of the weight I lost, which wasn't much because the candy caused me to totally stall for 4 weeks....but, it was the cookies and milk that put the weight back on.

I will never buy the candy again.

                  Thanks for the info.

I can't wait to go to the store and buy some whipped cream and cocoa! Seriously, that's my biggest problem is eating often enough. I think I wrote about it in the Atkins Catalog thread - I'm just a busy mom of 2 - one is 5 and one is 3 months and I find it extraordinarily difficult to make food for myself daily. I eat out nightly as well - not a big deal though since I make good choices. I also work full time so I'm going to have to figure something out.

Your best bet is to have a half day (or a few hours at least!) set aside to cook up a bunch of things so you have good stuff close at hand.

I like to do up a batch of small meatballs (hamburger, spices baked in the oven for about a half hour) and I'll throw them into a container with some cheese, cut up veggies, and another small container that I put ranch or blue cheese dressing in...voila..lunch.
They're great to snack on too.
Keep boiled eggs on hand as well....I'll also cook up breakfast sausage and nuke that (or eat it cold...I'm so not a fussy person..lol) and have it with a boiled egg.

A little bit of planning can go a long way! :yes
