  • What fruits are acceptable during the induction phase?

    Hi:

What fruits are acceptable during the induction phase of the Atkin's diet?

Are strawberries, peaches, and mangoes examples of acceptable fruits?

Also, for fruits that are not allowed, is it okay to eat them when they are unripe? Unripe fruits have a much lower glycemic index than ripe fruits of the same kind.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Green Xenon

This is the list of foods acceptable during Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

Do yourself a favor and read the book before you begin Atkins. Otherwise you'll probably do things wrong and think Atkins doesn't work for you. Atkins works, but you have to follow it correctly. The book we go by here is "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" (2002).

    Enjoy reading!

You can't eat any fruits on induction - they come later, when you start moving through the OWL rungs. Although something tells me you can have rhubarb, because it's not technically a fruit, but don't quote me on it!

One of the more experienced and knowledgeablee members will be along shortly, undoubtedly to correct me and fill out the gaps! :P

Rhubarb may be acceptable, but without some kind of artificial sweetener added, I can't imagine eating it. On the flip side, pumpkin is an acceptable veggie, and it's not too bad with a little heavy cream or cream cheese mixed in...

Prior to Atkins, rhubarb pie (with it's flour crust and heaps of sugar) was delish. If anyone has a favorite way of preparing it Atkins-friendly, I'd love to know your recipe!

When I lived in New Jersey, I remember grabbing wild rhubarb and munching out on the stalks. Our backyard was full of apple trees.
I live in an area of Miami just a bit west of Coral Gables. I had many fruit trees in my yard but lost them in hurricanes Katrina and Wilma.

Re: What fruits are acceptable during the induction phase?

I cook my rhubarb with a little water and some sweetener till soft then have it with whipped cream or cream cheese as a warm or cold dessert.

Or top with meringue (whipped egg whites) and bake, or cover with revolution roll 'batter' and bake.

As a child I used to love raw rhubarb sliced thinly and dipped in sugar - so maybe just sprinkled with granulated splenda would be nice too!

Edited to add a link to a new thread with another recipe for rhubarb
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
