  • Affects of Clear Broth soup?

For the last two days ive been eating alot more clear broth which is just basically chicken cooked in water with some seasoning. Anyway ive consumed alot of it as it is quite filling but i dont think its leaving my body. Does anyone find it stays in your system abit longer because its soup? or is that really a silly question?

Not sure what you mean by "it's not leaving your body", but I imagine the broth has a bunch of sodium, which may cause water retention.

It depends on the person and on how much water you are retaining. A few days... maybe up to a week. Increase your water intake and keep an eye on your sources of sodium.

Focus, is it commercially prepared broth in a can/tin or homemade? I've found that commercial broths (even low sodium ones) tend to bloat me because of the sodium.

I started making homemade broths years ago...very easy and you know exactly what is in it and I don't have any water retention problems. I was never able to figure out exact nutritional stats using FitDay though but I think it is very low calories, low fat (because I skim off the fat once it is chilled) and very low carbs presuming a few micro carbs leech out of the veggies during preparation of the broth.

I think a lot of people use a lot of salt when making broth...I used to also. Changed that by using less water with the poultry/bones making the broth more concentrated. That resulted in a rich darker flavorful broth that didn't need all that salt. I also put a couple ribs of celery in when making the broth & I think some of the sodium from the celery leeches out.

p.s. now I want a cup of broth!

I'm a chicken/beef broth cheater......Whenever I bake chicken or roast a beef, I deglaze the roasting pan with water and I save it in a container that I store in the freezer. The deglazings are very concentrated. Whenever I want chicken or beef broth, I'll thaw the deglazings, add water and I have broth.

Chicken broth with some eggs dropped in it is really a nice change in a while.
But I can feel the sodium in it too.

If you use fitday.com to track your food intake, it will tell you (nutrition tab) your RDA for sodium. Mine says 1300 mg.

Most countries have their own guidelines regarding daily sodium intake. You could Google it. I don't think DANDR has a limit.
