  • Day 12

Just finished my omlette and sausage patties and am ready to go out for another walk. Just some thoughts and observations for anyone who might need some encouragement. Two weeks ago I hit the scale at 280. I decided to try Atkins and comitt myself wholeheartedly to it; none of the three day all meat all the time false starts I had tried multiple times before after losing almost 60 lbs doing my version of Atkins a decade ago. This time I researched the diet, planned a menu and shopped accordingly and found ADBB, which has been a major positive for me. My eating habits have changed, I have incorporated veggies into my diet and find that I have more energy, a positive outlook and a real excitement about the lifestyle change that I am making.

When I started, I had some real doubts. Coming here and making a public committment was a big step in the right direction. If anyone out there is fearful about giving this a try, I'd encourage you to READ THE BOOK, use ADBB and let yourself off the hook about your weight. There are literally hundreds of people who are proving that this is a workable system, right on ADBB. Like the smilie says:

    Best Wishes,

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks for the encouraging feedback. ADBB makes this diet so much easier. I did it long ago before there were such internet resources; it was just me and THE BOOK. This is a lot better!

Thanks again. Your help means the world to me!

              Re: Day 12

I'm happy you decided to try Atkins the correct way and have gone head first into this lifestyle. I have been so much happier and healthier since I read the book, started the plan and started coming here everyday.

I eat foods I would have never thought of eating (or would have tried), I EXERCISE and love it, I drink water and for the first time in my life I can honestly say my body is hydrated....dry flaky feet and elbows are gone!!! I have soft sin for the first time in my life...yea me!!! LOL

You are a real inspiration Mick -- I hope you continue to have good results. Tell your best half she's doing a great job with you!!! LOL

                Re: Day 12

Hi Carole, Great day in the Hudson Valley! Joyce and I started with a nice long walk, through some neighborhoods and then into some very nice farm areas. We are eating wisely and better each day. I can feel the changes, will post 14 day results Monday. Better get started on those 'before' pics too!

What you say about changes is apparent to me already. As a younger man, I abused my body perfecting the barfly routine. While that is years in my past, it is a reference point. Having given up alcohol years ago and started to wean off coffee, water is a constant. I thought of you bicycling during our walk today....is my five mile walk as hard as what Carole is doing?
                I decided to keep walking!

I slacked off today Mick -- only went 15 miles and not quite ask quickly as normal....decided it was the weekend and I could give myself an easy day!!! LOL......

I know what you mean about the barfly days -- I decided at one time I didn't spend enough time in the bars so I started bartending so I have a REAL reason to be there...LOL!!! 2 jobs 6 and 7 days a week, drinking, eating bar food -- I was a wreck -- mentally, physically and every other way you can think of. I spent the next 10 years looking at the bottom of a bottle more days that I want to remember. I stopped cold turkey March 25, 1999 and haven't looked back. It takes me awhile to figure things out but I know I'm better off with out the booze, 3 years ago I gave up a 3 pack a day habit (cold turkey again) and in January I decided the weight had to come off.....I had turkey the first week, cold and warm...LOL!!!!

You're doing wonderfully. Have a great weekend!!

August 29th 1993 at 4 am. Don't miss it a bit. AA was a big help to me. Joyce didn't know me then and can't believe it. Some mornings I hold my cup of coffee up and say, "Look sweetie, no spills!" She thinks its crazy but it helps me remember the mornings I couldn't do that.
