  • Super Proud...

Ok so it's day 2 and aside from probably overdoing it on the pork rinds (glad I know now not to go crazy), I've done really well. Yesterday I weighed and measured myself so I've got some baselines and took a face shot and two body shots (front and side) so I'll have something to go off of in a couple weeks and then continuing in the coming months. Yesterday I was pretty slugglish but today I feel GREAT. For the first time ever, I'm stoked about a "diet," although I know I'm not supposed to call it that, LOL. So last September when I joined the board I thought I'd start, then received approval for the GBP surgery process, which I'd been waiting for, but after a few weeks in the orientation classes, I decided surgery wasn't something I was ready for and proceeded to keep gaining instead of doing something else. So I came back this week, got motivated, read the book and yesterday morning began induction. I am so glad I did. I keep imagining where I'd be if I would have started last September!! Oh well, no time like the present!

I do have a question though, kind of gross, but I know they warn against constipation, but is it normal to have OPPOSITE problem at first?

Hi Sarah -- in answer to your question....some of us do have that problem!!! It will pass in a couple days like the induction flu does.......I've heard some people say it could be because of food allergies but I was eating the same foods I was eating before just not eating any starches.....

It sounds like you are doing good so far. I'm glad you didn't go through with the surgery -- I have a friend who did and she regrets it everyday. She lost almost 200 pounds and then has proceeded to gain almost 85 pounds back. She's doing weight watchers and is so miserable -- I feel so sorry for her! She said if she could change her life that would be the one thing she would change (no surgery) - instead she would have found a god diet and stuck with it....but those are "hind sight" words!

Good luck to you -- if you need anything just ask.

Yep, the opposite is possible. Often is because of the increased fat intake. Sometimes it can be an intolerance to diary, if you weren't eating too much diary before Atkins. Other times it can happen from the extra fiber if you were having a diet very low in fiber previous to Atkins.

You are not consuming any sugar alcohols, are you? They can also cause this. So can artificial sweeteners.

What you need is to either wait (drink a lot of water to yourself hydrated and don't forget to take your vitamins... you might need additional things, like potassium) or take some soluble fiber. Psyllium husks are the best option as they are the highest in fiber among the fiber supplements recommended during Induction. Take 2 tbsp or so during the day (e.g. with two of your meals). You'll need to have them with a lot of water --- dissolve a tablespoon in a 8 oz glass of water, drink it, and then drink another glass. Depending on how it helps, you might need to adjust the amount you're taking.
