  • Too much water?

Ok I've been drinking about 48oz of water or more sometimes. Am I having to much I've noticed my first week I've lost 5lbs. But just checked this morning and I've gained 1.5? Do you think it's water? Will that stay? Flush out? I start my second week of Induction tomorrow so I guess I will check the measurements and weight again. If I've gained what do you think? Water?

    Thank you

    Re: Too much water?

You will have fluctuations daily in your weight. Dr Atkins suggests we drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily - so you aren't drinking "too much". Are you close to your period? Don't worry about drinking too much water, I drink between 120 and 150 ounces daily and many of the people on the water challenge drink over 64 ounces daily as have no trouble.

Actually, you might have gained weight for not drinking enough water. You "cure" water retention by drinking more water, not by not drinking. Aim for at least 64 oz per day, and definitely above this for days when you exercise.

Anyway, if I understand correctly, you've gained these 1.5 lbs overnight or in a matter of not more than 2 days. You'd have to eat a bunch of calories to gain 1.5 lbs of fat. So what do your body measurements say? Did they also go up? They are more reliable than the scale in measuring changes in body fat (not water!).

A bit too much salt, a slower digestion, aching muscles (from exercise), TOM and whatever other hormonal changes can all play tricks on your weight.

I suggest not taking the numbers on the scales too seriously during induction.
A bodies weight can change at differnt times of the month especially for women.
You can not gain fat by drinking too much water. So drink as much water as you need. It will all comes out in the end.
