i have now cleaned my diet up alot since first starting 14 days ago all is well energy not been great but expect this in first few days of cutting out the milk, appetite under control

when i did atkins before i didn't really drink coffee just accasionally i started drinking decaf and for ages even when following a different eating plan it didn't agree with me!

what i'm getting at is if coffee doesn't affect you badly of you can get through a day without it can you have it on the diet if your having it with cream and protein because i know this combination stops such a drastic affect on your blood sugar level?
dr atkins does say you can i have one cup right?
does black coffee or with cream affect weight loss and in what way?
what does decaf have in it that could possibly not agree with me?
may all be in the mind of course!
coffee i know doesn't make me hungry or give me less energy and doesn't coffee speed up your motablism?

Dr. Atkins recommends giving up caffeine because caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar. It's also a diuretic. So, here at ha we recommend that you give up caffeine!

actually it is how the cafeine causes that sugar effect that should have you running away. Caffiene stimulates insulin production and insulin while working on those blood sugars causes fatburning to stop and the fats to go to the fat cells for storage :yikes so do you really love that cafiene that much?

Another thing to think about is if you can stop drinking that coffee even for 14 days for a beter healthier you then you are an addict addcited to it and being addicted to anything isn't good for us.

Have you checked your decaf to see how it was created you want natural water decaffeinated stuff. that should not have any chemicals in it other then what is naturally in the cofee itself minus the caffeine.

        Happy low carbing.

So, besides the obvious water, what is an Atkins-friendly decaf beverage that will wake a person up in the morning? I don't like decaf coffee, it's kind of pointless IMHO. V8? Hmm...

V8 isn't allowed until you get to the higher up veggie rung in OWL....and even then, I'd be leery of any sugars that may be in it.

Any other decaf beverage isn't going to wake you up any more than decaf coffee will....but you're fine to have decaf herbal tea.

I enjoy my 1 cup of decaf in the morning...I think it's more the ritual of having that morning coffee that wakes me up more than the caffiene did, because I look forward to it just as much as I ever did.

No way I was giving up coffee either, I just switched to decaffeinated. Sure I had wicked withdrawal headaches for a few days but I enjoy a cup or two every day. Decaf espresso is awesome. Really, it's a 'jar is half full' kinda deal, not half empty!

I "get going" in the mornings by doing my exercises. By the time I'm a half mile into my workout, enough blood and oxygen have reached my brain that I'm fully awake. Plus I get that exercise stuff out of the way.

I have to agree with moochiecat on this, I think its the act of getting up and drinking somthing hot thats soothing and refreshing in the morning, not the caffiene; I switched to peppermint herbal tea with 1/2 packet of splenda and it really does the job. It also has an uncanny way of quelling the hunger pangs until I can get everything ready to make breakfast!!! I used to get up, head to the sunoco, get a 38oz cup of coffee with flavored cream(about ten of them to one cup) and add about an inch of sugar to start my day and boy was I cranky in the afternoon!!! My caffiene headache only lasted 1 day, guess I was lucky. And to look back now I think; good god, how did I handle all the crap?! Cathy

yeah i think at how and where my decaf was being made, i have found a coffee place that makes there decaf with no chemicals so going to give that a go!
it must definatly interfer with fat burning because i haven't lost any weight and appetite been low but continue 3 meals a day. i do exercise 5 days a week hour cardio and weights

its the buzz that is hardest to kick but this is all in my head, my mum brought me a decaf coffee and said is was real coffee and i thought i had the buzz. ha mad! wel as i say i'm getting there. i spent 6months overeating and ending up 2 stone overweight so i've got to give this lifestyle a go for a least that. i like! x thanks

For me giving up coffee was terrible! I got withdrawals from ****, no kidding :no . It's all about habits I guess because now I'm doing just fine with decaf but willnot give up that - I love the taste of cofee+cream...
