  • dextrose with 0 g sugar

I bought some pepperoni at the store because the atkins website said that they were a good snack. They have 0 g of sugar, but one of the ingredients on the label is dextrose. Should I refrain from eating them? Thanks.

It's a YMMV thing. Personally I would not eat them.

Anyway, the carbs are zero because they are below 0.5 g per serving. It could be 0.4999999999 grams, so my advice would be to count each serving as 0.5 net carbs.

Since pepperoni have a lot of sodium, it's possible to cause you some water retention.

In my opinion (which, surprise, surprise, is different from what is posted on atkins[dot]com), there are better snacks: chicken breast tenders, hard-boiled eggs, cheese or cheese crackers, a few olives, some veggies with dip, muffins.

Does it say zero carb as well as zero sugar?
Dextrose is sugar. I avoid it.

Yes, it says zero carbs and zero g sugar...I thought most meats didn't have carbs? How do I know what has carbs and what doesn't? I wish they had to put exactly how much was in there, even if it is below zero...

Processed meats (ham, bacon, pepperoni, salami) are often cured with sugar and have some carbs. From DANDR 2002, Chapter 11, page 124:
**Processed meats such as ham, bacon, pepperoni, salami, hot dogs and other luncheon meats --- and some fish --- may be cured with added sugar and will contribute with carbs.

Well, it can't be below zero... just below 0.5.
