  • Officially finished induction.....

    Hi there,

After 2 weeks I have officially finished induction but will prbably do another 1 - 2 weeks. I am a 44 M and my doctor told me to lose
20kg (44lb), as I was diagnosed with Diabetes 2 and very overweight
    97kg (213lb) for about 10-13 years.

I started eating better foods for 2 weeks and dropped 3kg (7lb) and then went onto Atkins induction and dropped another 6kg (14lb) also in 2 weeks for
a total of 9kg (21lb), over 5% of my body weight.

Not only have I stuck to induction but I have worked out about 3 hours
a day for 6 days and now I work out for about 30mins very strenuously of
the 90mins. Walking, running and weights, lucky I used to be very athletic
    when younger.

I have 2 great children and finally realised I am not invincible and needed
to take responsibility for my health, I was rushed to Emergency then Intensive Care for about 5 days with the diabetes, my diet was so bad,
my blood sugar was 10 times the norm and above what most nurses and young doctors had ever seen.

I am around halfway to my goal, but must say I will stick with Atkins and
can say for sure that he is a lifesaver.

All the best to those venturing on the journey and I think this board is
    awesome.

    Paul

    Great progress so far, Paul!
    Keep up the good work!
Unless you particularly want to stay longer on induction I would think about moving now to the main weightloss phase of Atkins, Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL).
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Hi Paul! I'm sorry it took something that devastating to make you realize you needed to change your eating habits...but don't worry, you'll find your not alone! The important thing is your changing you habits (and your life) now.

One thing I've definitely noticed from my short 7 weeks here, is that many people stay on induction too long - myself included. My weight stalled and I started to get bored with my food selections. You only 25 pounds to go - you may want to strongly consider moving on to OWL.

Good luck and congrats on the progress so far!!

Hi Paul, congrats on your awesome success so far!

I'd also like to encourage you to move to OWL, this is the phase where you will learn how to eat this way for life - to be able to maintain your losses forever. Many of us lose very well on OWL, don't be afraid to move on.

Thanks for all the advise and encouragement, I really appreciate it. Yes I think I will do just one more week on induction (i.e. 3 weeks in total) then move to OWL.

          Cheers Paul

Nice work, Paul. The onset of obesity related disease is a life changer and I'm glad that you decided to face it head on and do something about it! Please keep us posted.
