  • Atkins friendly salad dressing

    Hi,
I am on day 3 of induction. I have another Question...Is there any brand of Atkins friendly salad dressing you can purchase at the grocery store? All the dressings have so much sugar or high fructose corn syrup, such as Kraft. I am using olive oil and wine vinegar right now, but that is not my favorite.
    Thanks.

    Hi Mary,

My current favorite is Marie's Blue Cheese. It's usually found in the refrigerated section of the produce aisle. I believe their Caesar works as well.

    Good luck!

I'm using Greek Feta - 1 carb per tbsp. I use about 2 tbsp in my salad. I just look at the labels of all the ones that look good. Throw out the ones that have sugar listed on the nutritional label, and I'm left with just carbs. Then I look at ingredients and see if it has sugar, and throw that down. I'm still left with plenty of dressings. Have you thought about shopping in other stores? There's lots of selection at my local wal-mart, and three different grocery stores that I go to. Kraft is just a small amount of what I have to choose from.

        Thanks,
I do shop at Walmart and didn't see one I thought was ok, Is there a certain brand that you are aware of? I also shop at Albertson's, it is a national chain that goes by many names depending on the location.
I presume I should be looking for one with no sugar grams listed and no sugar in the ingredients, or is there a certain amount it can contain? I am looking for no sugar. Even the so called Italian what are basically vinegar and oil seem to have sugar in them.
I will also look at the Marie's dressing.

Is that greek dressing "made by Kroger"? So it is like their own house brand?

              Re: Atkins friendly salad dressing

I use several types of Ken's Steak House & its sold in most Grocery Stores & Walmart. 1 carb per 2 tablespoons & no sugar added

I also use Hidden Valley Ranch 2 carbs per 2 tablespoons without a problem either & know quite a few other on this & another Atkins Forum that use it as well!!!

I was told by several members on Maintence Level 4 that as long as sugar is at least listed 4th to 5th on the label you should be fine trying a product & is you don't stall or gain you can keep using it in moderation!!!

                Thanks Cindi,
I will look again today when I shop. I am a bit confused I guess about - some sugar, no sugar, carbs, no carbs when shopping for salad dressing. I do use olive oil and vinegar, but that is a bit boring for me. And today i am on Day 4 of Induction, and I am very pleased with how it is going. I have no major carb withdrawal, and I am nor REAL hungry. In fact after using fitday yesterday, I don't think I am eating enough. I was pretty full for the day and only had 950 calories, so I tried to eat a little more and pushed it to 1143. That is a good question. I wonder how many calories is too little?

DANDR says this about salad dressings:
For salad dressing, use oil and vinegar (but not balsamic vinegar, which contains sugar) or lemon juice and herbs and spices. Prepared salad dressings without added sugar and no more than two carbs per tablespoon serving are also fine.

I make my own Buttermilk Ranch Dressing and Thousand Island Dressing from scratch. That way, I KNOW what's in there.

Hi, Actually, we have "Kroger" grocery stores here in Illinois, they are kind of disappearing, but there are still a few left. That's why I asked if it was Kroger's "store brand". Maybe it is made by Krogers, and just distributed to other stores.
I actually came home today with a Marzetti brand. They are very similar to the Marie's as suggested earlier, but Marie's is not sold at my Walmart where I went today. The Caesar Dressing has only 1 carb for 2 TAB.

For those members in Induction (since this is the "14-day Induction" forum): buttermilk is not allowed until OWL Rung 2.

That's why I try to make my own as much as possible. Here are some homemade vinaigrette recipes that I posted. They make for a nice change to the basic oil and vinegar and can be used as marinades too.
