  • A newbie.. any imput would be appreciated!!

Hey guys I'm new here... A little about me.. I'm 22 years old 5.5in 150lbs.. with a slightly thicker frame (I'm like Beyonce +25lbs of fat). For the last month, I've excercised 6 days a week and have been using a low fat/low cal/heavy excercise regimen, and although I did manage to use that to get down to a very lean 130lbs in 2003, I'm having trouble doing such at this time. My body has always seemed to "want" me at around 150. My boyfriend, lost 50lbs on Atkins before we met, and seeing his progress convinced me to read into it. He has stopped his diet, but is starting back with me today!! He had a 15lb induction loss, but I'm curious to what a woman of my age/height/weight should expect to lose in induction. I am just a little stir crazy with this extra weight, and cannot wait to get back to my former self, and MAINTAIN that weight for life. Since I only have 20lbs to hit my goal weight, how long do you you think it will take me? I am a bulldog when it comes to dieting.. 20 carbs means 20 carbs... restricted foods are RESTRICTED!! And lastly... I have a wedding to go to 4/17, will I feel/look/weigh any different by day 10? I'm just really excited about the whole thing and can't wait to show off my new body! Thanks for any answers you may have!!!

Welcome, glad you found us. First, you need to read the book and then reread the book so you understand exactly how and why it works. Just limiting carbs doesn't work with this plan, you need to aim for high fat, medium protein and low but not no carbs. You need to drink your water and take your vitamins and you need to stay away from shakes and bar that stall out lots of folks.
Good luck to you and happy low carbing.

I lost 8 pounds the first week and then about a pound a week, but I weighed 270. According the Dr A, he said that you should expect to lose about 5- 10 percent of that you want to lose during induction and then .5 to 2 pounds every week after that.

That's what confuses me.. I want to lose 20lbs.. but I can easily be healthy with a loss of 10-35lbs.. so with 20lbs I should expect to lose only 1-2lbs but if I wanted to lose 35 I expect 2.75-3.5? I don't understand what my set intent of weight loss has to do with my actual weight loss. Also, has the 5%-10% been consistant with women my size? I understand that 5%-10% of someone who needs to lose 50lbs is a lot and that I will lose less weight than them, but 1-3lbs seems low for a 2 week total... but maybe that's how it goes.. I don't know.. that's why I'm asking HELP ME ha

alexis-- if you have a high metabolism, you could lose up to 10 pounds the first 2 weeks. Just my guesstimation. Regardless, by day 14 you'll feel so good, you'll carry on for that reason alone, with the weight loss being the added bonus!

            Welcome aboard! :^D

And are you exercising? This is a musty musty!

I'm just so scared.. I understand why it works.. I see how it has worked for everyone.. but I'm still soo paranoid that I will gain weight. I've always been just a tad bit pudgy going back to being a kid.... when I diet, I diet HARD CORE.. so I'll follow the program and will never cheat.. I have incredible will power. In the summer of 05 I went from 165 down to 130 with just low cal and excercise... the problem was.. once I hit 130 I was craving burgers!! and I let myself gain 20lbs over the course of 2 years... I've been working out so much lately.. and because I know I'm building muscle the scale hasn't really moved.. which as you know can be a major killer of motivation! I just am really a bad food addict.. so I am happy to try a diet that allows red meat and cheese ect... Bleu Cheese steak is on the menu tonight!!

That's the good thing about atkins, food cravings go away. You do not have to be hungry anymore

I feel your paranoia. This is why taking measurements is a must! Who knows? You might whittle down to a 4/6 and weigh more at that size than even you expected!

Like Cleo said - lots of people have found they now fit a smaller size of clothes at the same weight that they wore several sizes larger in the past before Atkins

Don't worry too much about how much weight you can expect to lose - you will be putting pressure on yourself and risking disappointment if you dont lose a particular number of pounds.

Set a goal of making 14 days cheat-free induction to start with and take the number of pounds you do lose in that time as a good guide as to how metabolically resistant you are to weightloss for the future.

And make sure you make a note of your current measurements and if you are as dedicated to the rules as you sound we will be seeing an amazing inches loss result no matter what the scale says in 15 days time :joy
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
