  • Nitrate and Bacon Dilemma!

Ok couldnt find any nitrate and bacon at the store. Whats up with the no nitrate? Will this effect my ketosis state?? I never knew I was supposed to avoid this. Yes I am going to buy the book this week coming up. Someone please explain lol. I was sooo looking forward to starting my induction phase waking up to eggs and bacon!

Saw an old thread about it, said it is linked to cancer.....is that all? Yes I need to avoid but I spent my last dollars getting groceries. I'll look for nitrate free for the next time I just need to know if ill still lose weight with this stuff??

Dr. Atkins wrote that "meat and fish products cured with nitrates [...] are known carcinogens." But recent research suggests that they might not be the bad, ugly guys it was thought they are. I wouldn't worry about it. You're not going to eat a lb of bacon a day anyway.

Don't forget to spread your veggies throughout the day. Some people (incl. myself) eat some veggies for breakfast, and the rest for lunch and dinner, rather than have a lot of them at once. This way you avoid blood sugar spikes.

I have never seen nitrate-free bacon at my local grocery so I just "ignored" that fact and it never stopped my weight loss. I had one package of bacon spread out over the first week of induction and lost 9.2 pounds! =)

Nitrate/nitrite free bacon is labeled as Uncured Bacon. There are quite a few brands out there plus some store brands.

              Hiya Hon

I've always had a rasher or two with my brekkie and its ruined my ketosis or weight loss.

I dont' think anyone would eat loads of it anyway..

              enjoy

                Re: Nitrate and Bacon Dilemma!

I have been regularly buying uncured or nitrate/ite free bacons for the last year or so, but just spent some time yesterday researching the issue on the 'net. It seems that the risk of getting cancer from nitrates is somewhat balanced by the risk of getting botulism from the "uncured" brands!

I give up, LOL, I'm just buying whatever's the best bacon on sale from now on. I love my morning bacon!!
