  • Day 1 and boy would I like something sweet

I'm almost at the end of day 1 on Induction. Yay!!!

I was coasting along quite easily all day, until now. I've had dinner (salmon sauteed in butter with 1 clove garlic with 1/2 cup string beans and 1 cup salad) and now I want that "little something sweet" like I'm accustomed to having.

I'm not going to have anything, but when does that niggling little voice go away? It's very annoying!

Hang in there you are doing great! I don't think that nagging little voice ever goes away but the cravings eventually will. The first few days may be rough but after that you will feel great and proud of yourself for holding on.

The chatter in your head will slow down, eventually. For me it was followed by a burst of energy. I dropped down from sleeping 8 hours to about 5 and I had all the housework and laundry done before work!

Try to appreciate all of the changes you go through on Atkins. One of the greatest victories is developing your inner resolve to reject the siren song of sweets and carbs. You will be better prepared when people around you suggest that "one little bite won't hurt you"!

        Best wishes!!!

          Thanks everyone

I feel like I've been obsessing over food all day today. I guess this is because it's all novel and new right now. The voices certainly are loud!

I'm looking forward to the day that I don't really think about having dessert. The day that I make my meal plan in the morning, and forget about food the rest of the day.

Re: Day 1 and boy would I like something sweet

I think for me when those pounds fell off those voices were just drowned out by all the happy twitter of 4 lbs down etc.
This is still how I fight temptation. I remind myself that I am doing this for a reason. So I have some "fat" clothes and some "fat" pictures around so if any voices comes up I can quiet them down - showing them where this kind of sillyness leads me.

I also try to buy a pair of pants that just fit - this is important to me now because I am not losing very quick and maintaining is more of a focus. If I get too wild I put on my skinny pants and I can conquer everything.

Re: Day 1 and boy would I like something sweet

Pre-Atkins I was also used to having something sweet after my dinner (and sometimes lunch). It was usually fruit but its absence now is noticeable at times. It's not a hunger issue so I think it's just a habit that I had. I'm only a few weeks into the program so that habit isn't all that far behind me.

My first week I did have some hot decaf tea a few nights...it takes a while to sip and by the time I was done, I was satisfied with my finale to dinner. One night I really wanted something more desserty so I made the mock danish recipe and had a little of that. That definitely fit the bill that night.

I don't know if those food thoughts ever go away for some. I'm not really a sweets person, but I still have impure pasta thoughts. Thoughts have zero carbs.

I think by day four or five, it will get a whole lot better. Right now, it is a real, legitimate craving for you. After a few days, it will be more like, "Oh, I could have something sweet right now..."

And yes, after a few weeks and several pounds later, you won't miss it. You will be glad NOT to have it.

Re: Day 1 and boy would I like something sweet

I have a BIG sweet tooth. I am on day four and the cravings and the voice in my head is MUCH better! Hang in there. One day at a time - one day at a time.

I had to just remind myself that I am no going to give into the junk. It is not good for me and does no one any good. I am slowly but surely getting there. Plus once you get through the deduction you can make some very low carb desserts that I saw on some sites that just look super yummy but fit in if I want something.

                      Just hang in there!

Thanks so much for the support everyone!

On day 2 now, and the sugar demons are screaming at me. They can just go straight to as far as I am concerned, as I refuse to give in.

You're getting good advice - induction is about breaking our old bad habits. Having said that, there's nothing keeping you from having a legal sweet! Cruise the recipes sites for some awesome induction friendly desserts or have a diet soda with splenda or some splenda sweetened whipped cream on top of homemade sugar-free jello.

Like everyone else said, it gets better soon! IMO, the best part of this WOE is that you should never feel deprived. Sometimes you just need to be creative!

Day 4 and closest thing I had to cheat was a "diet coke"...in which i have actually never had any diet soda in my life before, I figure since its allowed on induction, ill drink very sparingly because I want to treat it as a reward every 5 days or so
