  • A new start - Enough is Enough!

Hi there all wonderful Atkins diet folks,

I lost a whole lot of weight back in 2003 (60 pounds to be exact) and then I rediscovered my love of burgers, pizza, taco bell, chocolate, sugar, etc.

I am now 240 pounds and in terrible shape.

I have had enough! I am starting Atkins again today and I am ready, dedicated, motivated to do this.

Please wish me luck, help me gain the added strength to be able to walk past the pizza and the burgers, have the patience to cook my own food and be disciplined.

Back in 2003, I did it to look better (mainly for the chicks) but this time I need to do this for my health and for myself.

I can use all the help and encouragement.

Thank you all for being here.

    Good morning to you!

I'm right there alongside you. Together, and with the help of the wonderful people on this board, we can DO THIS!

Cooking for myself is the biggest change I've noticed in the past 2 days on Induction. I would always just pop something quick and easy into the mocriowave, like a high-carb TV dinner, or frozen burritos. I am actively reminding myself that I am WORTH the effort it takes to cook up a couple eggs, or sautee that salmon fillet for supper.

So are you. You're WORTH IT.

    Best of luck to you!

Re: A new start - Enough is Enough!

Glad to have you hear Edwin. I'm on day 3 and feeling the "Atkins Flu" (or so they tell me). Day 2 was awesome, but today I'm fuzzy, agitated and in a fog. I'm taking my vitamins and eating as many veggies as allowed and slamming the water so hope to pull through in a day or 2.

I had a friend that fasted for 7 days due to religious reasons last year. Nothing but water for 7 days and she did it with a smile on her face. I keep thinking about her and then laughing at my weak self for thinking "this is so hard." Perspective man, I just need a better view that's all.

Good luck. Come here when you start to get low...I used to think this stuff was cheezy, all these boards for motivation, but now I know it's what can make or breat it for me so love the fact these folks take time out of their busy lives to help us. How wonderful, huh?

These folks are great. Anyways, I am so hungry right now and I really want the BAD stuff, but I will get myself down to a salad place and eat some "wonderful" salad.

I will check back in after lunch.

What is this induction flu you are all talking about?

I just had my lunch (salad) and I feel good about it right now. An Atkins shake and lots of water will hold me till dinnertime.

The Atkins shakes and/or bars are not allowed on induction - there are ingredients that aren't induction legal. You should be following the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) book.

During induction you should eat something with fat when you are hungry - chicken dunked in mayo, meat with cheese rolled up, etc. Make sure you are eating 2 cups of loosly packed salad and 1 cup of veggies off the "other" list on the acceptable food list. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html

At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

              Good luck.

Other than some of the shakes having non-Induction ingredients, many, many people are stalled by them. Same thing with the Atkins bars. If you get hungry again before dinnertime or if 6 hours have passed since your lunch, better have a low-carb snack with some fat and protein in it.

Re: A new start - Enough is Enough!

Thank you all. I think you guys are right. Back in 2003 when I did this and I lost a significant amount of weight, I cut sodas, coffee, everything, I was real hardcore.

Then a few months ago I did Atkins for about a month and a half but thought I could get away with having coffee, sodas, and lots of Atkins shakes. Well I only lost a total of 10 pounds in the month and a half. I was very frustrated and I thought the Atkins shakes might be the problem. On the shakes and the bars it says its good for all levels of Atkins diet though. But I will listen to you guys and CUT THEM OUT.

I am however going to drink my one large decaf coffee with splenda in the mornings. I may drink a diet coke three or four times a week. If I am not losing weight fast enough, sodas will be the next casualty.

Thank you all again for your support.

This is day 3, but I am doing fine.

Watch the ASPARTAME in the Diet Coke. It can kick you out of Ketosis. Generally, the only artificial sweetner allowed during induction is Splenda.
