  • When do you learn to "like" water?

Ok I hate water. I do. It is boring to me but I am drinking it! I like mine to be ice cold and find that I do drink it better this way.

But I wonder when I will learn to actually want it instead of making myself? You see I really love my soda's and cut them out completely. I really did not need them or the sugars etc. SO I know it is for the best. But man I have to "force" the water down!

I am only on day four of induction so I have a ways to go.

It will happen. You just need to stick with it for a bit. Years ago, I drank crazy amounts of Mountain Dew. Nothing else. The sugar obviously wasn't doing me any good and I wanted to break the addiction. I started drinking water, but not tons of it. I gradually added more and more water every day and it's been 5 years since I "broke up" with Mt. Dew. Since then, I've learned to LOVE water. You will eventually get so used to it that you want it before anything else when you are thirsty. I know if I grab a diet soda or anything else, I don't feel nearly as hydrated as I do with water. Just give it time.

Let me know what that happens, k? I'm still trying to figure that one out. I detest water but I drink it...and try to remember to drink often so I'm hydrated before I'm dehydrated. I shove a lemon slice or a slice of ginger in my over-large waterbottle during the school days (previous college student and now teacher) and drink up during the day.

      Cheers!

Between my husband and I we used to drink 4 of the 2 liter bottles of Diet Coke every day. Yep ... I loved my Diet Coke. I kicked and screamed thinking I had to give it up. Now, I freely and willingly choose water over anything else. Only occasionally will I have a sun tea with Splenda and to me, it now tastes funny. Go figure.

Re: When do you learn to "like" water?

Before January 5, 2009 I rarely if ever drank a glass of water. On January 5, 2009 I started Atkins and had read that 64oz was the minimum and on the board I had read to drink half your weight in water or more -- I ended up with the number 150 oz (don't remember why or how) but that is what I started drinking and have drank no less than 120 oz a day since.

I drink mine cold out of the fridge, no ice and I drink from a 32oz jug with a straw that I fill up over and over during the day. If you sip from a glass you won't believe how much more you drink daily.

There are some people who feel it is easier to float lemon, lime or cucumber in the water but I never felt the need to use my carbs that way.

We have a water challenge on the board if you need extra encouragement or if you feel having a commitment will help you please feel free to come join us.

Get it out of your head you don't like water.....just remember, every time you put water in your body your internal organs are working easier, you'll be flushing the nasties and toxins out of your system, and it will help keep your metabolism up - when you think of it that way it's easier not to "dislike" something that is so vital to your system!

Re: When do you learn to "like" water?

BTW -- before I started Atkins I would drink a 12 pak of Diet Rite in less than 48 hours....and I drank coffee by the pot full. My husband had triple bypass 3 years ago and we had to change to decaf -- not what I wanted to do -- but I did it and I'm glad -- I don't drink anything but 1 cup of decaf in the morning then start my water. When I have my water in for the day I have another cup of decaf.

All you have to do is change your thinking -- it's easy when your health is the most important thing!!

One day (soon) you'll just realize you drink your water without even noticing! When I drink a diet soda now, I end up drinking several ounces of water right along with it. I keep a large straw cup (either 24 or 32 ounces) with me at all times and just sip and refill it all day. I like mine ice cold too. Sounds like you're already finding what works for you. Stick with it!

Zevia is a soda sweetened with stevia. As far as sodas go, this may be worth exploring but SODA IS NOT WATER but rather an occasional treat beverage for those who like this sort of thing.

Re: When do you learn to "like" water?

I thankfully have always LOVED water. I prefer it straight from the tap, but I've been making myself drink iced water since I started Atkins. I can drink a 32 ounce glass in minutes and not even realize I'm done with it. I've just always been thirsty! Even when I would drink soda I'd have a big glass of water in between the sodas.

I'm sure I drink way more than I tally up at the end of the day. It gets hard to keep track of every glass in the evenings.

Zevia has carbs... they may be net carbs - but I'm not gonna chance it...

I do not buy anything to drink. So I have nothing else to drink, but I love water, some times I add a dash of lemon for a change.
I cant drink diet soda, what makes it diet, makes me sick.
So a SMALL ice coffe is a big treat.
when your in ketosis, it will be easier too

                          Sporty -
keotsis is a duretic....so when you are in keotsis you need more water to replace what your body is getting rid of. You can drink other things but make sure you get your 64 ounces of pure water in daily.....if you don't drink enough pure water daily cut back on whatever else you are drinking.

Thanks everyone. I am only having one unsweet tea a day in a very small portion and the last two days have ONLY had water. I am getting there. I find I am starting to crave it more as I go along and the more I increase it.

I am only 2.4 pounds away from my first mini goal so I guess the water is workin!

Thanks for all the advice well minus the spam! LOL

Re: When do you learn to "like" water?

I've never minded water. When I was a child, on hot days, I used to come inside the house and cool off by drinking ice-cold water or sucking on ice cubes. I didn't like drinking juice, milk, soda to cool me off because those drinks left a sticky feeling in my mouth and throat---which was unpleasant to me, particularly if I was trying to cool off from being outside.

I like my water ice-cold. Some people like water room-temperature or luke-warm. But for me, ice cold is best. It did take me some time to get used to drinking hot water (because on cold wintry days, you still need to drink the minimum of 64 ounces and tea, coffee, etc. doesn't count towards that 64 ounces.)

I also found that filtered water is better than straight tap water because my municipal water supply tastes awful.
