  • Back to Induction!

Hi all! In the last several weeks I really blew following the Atkins regime. I tried to do a sort of low glycemic/weight watchers version of some sort of strange diet. Well, the result was that I totally went totally off the Atkins way of eating. As a result I feel bloated, generally awful all over and have NO energy. Also, my IBS has returned with a vengence! That should show me! Anyway, I'm back on track after throwing out and giving away a lot of stuff that is not on Dr. Atkin's list of acceptable foods. Also, I think I'll stick to Induction for quite a while. I'm comfortable with it, it helps my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. Weight loss is also a boon as is all-over good health and feeling energized. I really think that there are some of us--I for one--who simply cannot handle carbs like bread, and hidden sugars without really messing up one's metabolism. So, here's hoping for the best and I'm back with a renewed dedication to doing Atkins for life. Mary

I think one of the best parts of Atkins is the OWL Rungs. It gives us a chance to try carbs in incremental portions so we understand exactly how our bodies process them and how we feel and understand if there are foods we should avoid entirely. In 40 years of dieting (and I tried them all!), I never learned as much as I have with Atkins.

        Best wishes to you.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

          Re: Back to Induction!

          and how!

I remember when I was 21 and tried for the first time eating to lose. I'd eat a plain bowl of oatmeal with non fat milk and plain dry toast followed by orange juice. For lunch I'd eat only a ham sandwhich with no mayo, mustard, or cheese and for dinner plain skinless chicken with rice pilaf and a whole wheat bun. Snacks would be yogurt, granola bars, or bowls of low sugar cereal.

Carbs carbs carbs!!! The ONE thing *my* body didn't need or want. After all these years, it's really only one thing that I had to do to end my suffering. It was so confusing before. It's so clear now.

And I used to work with all these health nut women (I live in Colorado) who think the way they eat is so high and mighty and the way I eat is stupid and bad for you. All they care about is calories and fat. I get so sick of the naysayers who are uneducated. "Come on, June. You cant say eating a hunk of cheese and a hunk of meat and nothing else is good for you." they say. As if!

          Not even worth arguing!

What you say is so true! I usually just tune out such people. Actually I simply didn't check here about the possibility of adding any fruit and also got around a number of people at a gathering and we all indulged heartily. Anyway, I"m glad you are doing what is good for you. THank you for writing. Mary

Next time--I'd lost 30+ pounds, I'll be really careful about the rungs of OWL. Thank you for writing and I'll ask a lot more question from all of you before venturing out into the deep! Mary

                  Re: Back to Induction!

I think folks like us are simply not "wired" to eat carbs and other such stuff. It is amazing how much better I feel after a good night's sleep and a return to Indictuion. Just clearing out the pantry has helped with the idea of what is a good eating method. Even the IBS has improved! Thank you for your thoughts! Mary

To all of you who wrote. Thank you! I appreciate the support. Tried to write each of you an individual quick reply. If it didn't work, just know I thank all of you and will ask for whatever help needed here. I like the fact that on this forum all of us are still following Dr. Atkins without changing his teachings. To all of you--good luck and I'll be thinking of you. Mary
