  • Day 14...now what?

    Hi!
I am on day 14 of my induction. I have lost about 10 lbs! I am so excited and surprised! It happened fairly easily compared to other diets I have tried.

I ordered my book from Amazon but it hasn't arrived yet. So...what do I do now?

My induction worked so well, I'm tempted to keep on it, but I have heard that could stall my weight loss.

I have 15 more lbs to go and I would like to do another 10 lbs in two weeks, is that even doable?

I wouldn't be so impatient but I do have a family reunion coming up in 2 weeks and I would love to look my best!

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

My advice is that if you haven't read the book, definitely stay on Induction until you do. I'd consider it sort of an "autopilot".

Most people tend to lost that first ten right away then level out a bit after the first two weeks. It's just up to your body how quickly you will continue to lose. Atkin's says many choose to stay on "extended induction" to keep on track and solid and to lose at a faster rate.

    Good luck and good job!

      Thanks Juniper!

I think that's wise advice, I'm hoping the book will arrive early this week!

I do LOVE induction and don't want it to end!

Dr. Atkins recommends that you move on to OWL and Pre-Maintenance when you have about ten pounds left to lose. Read the book as soon as you receive it. You don't want to be happy with your weight loss and then start adding back carbs only to regain the weight and that can happen if you don't go by the plan as he wrote it.

OWL is a valuable portion of this plan since you will learn how you respond to various foods from a carb perspective as you add in carbs incrementally. For me, it was one of the most valuable aspects of this way of eating for life.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

I agree with Irish -- you only have a few pounds left to loose -- staying on extended induction too long won't give you enough time to go through the rungs slowly so you can learn the foods that you will be able to eat and which ones bother you enough to stay away from.

You can find information you need to move on here: Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) - Atkins Diet

It's too bad you are flying blind without the book -- hopefully it will show up soon.

Congrats!! Definitely consider OWL. There is plenty of information in the links Carole provided. The first rung is simply a little more veggies - you can stay on that through the family reunion. Have fun and enjoy the time with family!!
