  • End of 2nd week - hardly any loss

Hi everyone this is my first ever post on here! I have been doing induction for 2 weeks now. I haven't cheated and I have definitely stayed under 20 carbs. I did atkins about 5 years ago and I remember losing about 8lbs on the first week! This time I have only lost 2lbs on the first week and under 1lb this week. No change in measurements. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I drink 2ltrs of water every day.

A normal days menu for me is:

Breakfast - 1 sausage, 2 slices of bacon, 1 fried egg and a handful of mushrooms

Lunch - Salmon and brocolli with mayo

Dinner - minced beef and onion with cheddar cheese or chicken and broccoli and mayo

I don't have any snacks although I do have 2-3 cups of decaf tea with double cream and splenda a day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Katy

    Welcome to ADBB, Katy!

The foods in your menu are all "legal" for Induction. The only problem I see is that you are eating too many veggies from the "Other Vegetables" list. During Induction we eat either 3 cups of "Salad Vegetables", or 2 cups of "Salad Vegetables" and 1 cup of "Other Vegetables". Mushrooms are salad veggies, but broccoli and onion are both on the "other" list. Also, veggies should be measured raw (i.e. 1 cup of raw onion, not 1 cup of cooked onion).

Did you check the ingredients in the sausages you are eating? Are they all okay for Induction? No rusk, no diary-derived ingredients, no sugars (e.g. dextrose)?

In any case, you should not compare your weight loss "then" with your weight loss "now". Our bodies change in time, you might have a different amount of weight to lose, your activity level might be different (for your age, body weight, etc.), and all these influence the speed at which we are losing.

Are you exercising? Taking any nutritional supplements? Any other medication you are taking?

Re: End of 2nd week - hardly any loss

      Hi thanks for your reply.

I have not really been exercising to be honest - just once in 2 weeks. I am only taking a multivitamin and benefibre. I am on antibiotics for acne and also effexor antidepressant. Could these effect my weight loss?

Also I am not sure about the sausages, I only read the amount of carbs in them which was 3.5g for 2 sausages. Could you please explain to me why only salad veggies are allowed? Isn't it just the amount of net carbs that matter? Will it prevent my weight loss?

      Thanks

Find time to get some exercise in. Dr. Atkins was quite harsh about this, saying that we are not following his plan unless we are exercising.

The antibiotics may cause bloating (water retention) and yeast issues (especially if you have been taking them for some time). Antidepressants can affect your weight; this is an issue you need to address with your doctor.

The sausages are either huge or the carbs come from something other than spices. 3.5 g for 2 sausages is a lot.

It can affect your weight loss, depending on your CCLL (which might be lowered by the meds you are taking) and on possible food intolerances you might have. The Induction phase is not only about keeping carbs below 20 g, but also about following the Acceptable Foods List for Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html. This list includes 3 cups of veggies, which can be distributed in the way I explained in my previous post. The reason for this is that most "salad veggies" are lower in carbs and have a lower glycemic index than vegetables on the "other veggies" list.
