  • New to Atkins

    Hi Everyone,

I am new to Atkins and I love it so far. I am feeling great.
    Just had a question.
Is it possible to be in ketosis (purple) and not lose weight?

    Re: New to Atkins

Yes, it is possible. But since you have just started Induction (right?), you should not be too impatient with the scale. How often are you weighing? You might want to wait until the end of the first or second week to check your weight.

        Re: New to Atkins

I started last Monday. I saw an initial small drop and I am feeling great but I was expecting more. I am strictly following atkins by the book. I guess I just need to be more patient.

Do you want to share your menu - sometimes we need to adjust a bit. How much you lose will also depend a bit on how much you have to lose. If you already are a small person - you will not see big numbers. It is a relative thing.

            Re: New to Atkins

Are you eating only foods on the acceptable food list? Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it.

Are you using the bars and shakes? They aren't induction friendly because of the ingredients in them. How much pure water are you drinking daily? You should be drinking at least 64 ounces daily (nothing added).

Post your menu on the Rate My Menu thread and you'll find out what needs to be done.

            Good luck.
            Carole

              Re: New to Atkins

              menu example:
Breakfast: 2 eggs w 3 strips of bacon
Lunch: Salad w chicken, blue cheese, cucumber, , ranch dressing
Dinner: Steak cooked with onion, salad with mozzorella cheese, creamy ceaser dressing

I never use any shakes or bars or anything not on the acceptable list.
I dont use artificial sweetners and I am drinking at least 120 oz of water a day.
I have about 50 lbs to lose.

Looks good. You checked the ingredients in both dressings, right? It should be no sugar or other hidden stuff there.

So how much did you lose? 2 lbs? 5?

                  Re: New to Atkins

3 lbs- Shouldn't I expect at least 10% of my excess weight?
No sugar in anything. Nothing illegal.
Wouldn't I be knocked out of ketosis if I was eating sugar?

                    Re: New to Atkins

Have you tried FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal to see how your macros are. After you load up your menu it will tell you the percentage breakdown of your eating.

I think you just need to hang in there. Some of us start slow but pick up steam after a bit.
