  • Induction Confusion!!

    Hi all,

I started the atkins last thursday at 213 pounds. All was going well and I have been exercising daily. On Monday I weighed myself and was thrilled to see I went down to 205 pounds! 8 pounds was a great amount and I could see the difference in my face.

However, I weighed myself today and according to the same scales weigh 214 pounds which is more than I started at!! arghh!!! I dunno what the **** is happening. I haven't changed my eating patterns since Monday so I'm totally confused. I still look like I've lost weight - especially in the face etc.

Is this normal? If anyone could shed any light I'd appreciate it.

    Many thanks!

Any hormonal things going on. If you are a lady and menstruating we often see a serious weight gain around that time of month.

Any other things? Medication, exercise, stress?

Also may be good to share your menu just in case.

If are you eating only foods on the acceptable food list (no shakes or bars) and drinking 64 ounces of pure water daily as recommended I'd stay off the scales a few days and see what happens. Dr. Atkins said to weight at the end of the 2 week induction period because of weight fluctuation. Good luck.

          Re: Induction Confusion!!

I'm of the male species so the "time of the month" need not figure into the equation - I hope! I'm in serious f*cking trouble if it does!!

Menu's been very strict. Even gave mayo a wide berth given that the ingredients in Hellmans show that it has a little bit of sugar.

Breakfast - Omelette (3 eggs), two bacon and sausages. (Using Olive oil)
Snack - Cucumber slices with cheese in the middle
Lunch - Salad with cucumber, onion, cheese, eggs,
Dinner - Steak/Chicken with salad and veg - mainly brocolli and cauliflower

I'm also drinking loads of water as required. Haven't ran since Monday evening coz I needed to give the weary limbs a rest. Felt I was overdoing and didn't wanna cause an injury etc.

Being of Irish blood this diet is a complete nightmare given our inherent love of potatoes, bread and anything stodgy. (As well as plenty of Guinness!) But I'm determined to see it through. Can see how people can get frustrated when they don't see the results after making such great sacrifices/changes to their diet.

Weird thing is that I know I have lost some weight in the face and waist. It's just confusing that the scales are telling me otherwise.

I'm only needing to lose 20 pounds - target is 193 pounds as I'm 6ft 1 and don't wanna look like a skeleton! Do you think maybe the fact that I've not that much to lose would have something to do with it?

            Re: Induction Confusion!!

Maybe you had a bit salty day before that last weigh in. If we eat a lot of salt we usually retain water and that may result in pounds.

You have checked your bacon and sausage for illegal ingredients - sugar dextrose, corn syrup, starches?

You are within the limits for your veggies? Cheese?
Your menu looks good generally but for some reason your body has decided to hang on to some water - I think this will come off soon.

I'm thinking your scale is wacky...

                Re: Induction Confusion!!

I agree it might be a wacky scale. My scale is too sensitive and if I move it
just a few inches from its regular place it shows either 3-4 pounds more or less than usual. So maybe that's your case?

Or, have you been training real hard in the past few days? If so, that could explain the gain on the scale.

                  Re: Induction Confusion!!

dont get swayed by your scales it most probably is just water so maybe stay of the scales for a bit and i agree salt will make you retain water so check the amounts you having .
so many times i fell off the wagon because of scales i simply dont weigh myself anymore.the plan works if folowed correctly so i know that im losing weight .its much more exciting trying on clothes every so often and see yourself shrinking .keep up the good work it really will pay off.

Did you use a different scale? Was your hair wet? Wearing boots? Did you just drink a gallon of water? It seems weird like there is something wrong with the scale or something. How much time passed between weigh ins?

Muscles retain water when they heal... If you had been excersing and feeling sore...I suspect that was what the gain was about. Cut salt, caffein, and make sure you watch you cheese intake... Weigh things until you get a handle on things maybe?
