Re: chewing gum
aspartame is known to slow weight loss or stop it -- when I went to the Wrigley website they list these ingredients for the sugar free Extra bubble gum Wrigley.com :: Extra
INGREDIENTS: SORBITOL, GUM BASE, GLYCEROL, MANNITOL, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, LESS THAN 2% OF: HYDROGENATED STARCH HYDROLYSATE, SOY LECITHIN, ASPARTAME, ACESULFAME K, COLORS (RED 40 LAKE, YELLOW 6), SUCRALOSE, BHT (TO MAINTAIN FRESHNESS), . PHENYKETONURICS: CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE.
I can't tell you not to chew gum - I can tell you I don't because I don't like the ingredients and choose to "chew" on a stalk of celery in place of gum -- I cut the celery is small pieces and put them in a snack size baggie -- they are easy to transport and stay crisp all day.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

Re: chewing gum
Most chewing gums are sweetened with sugar alcohols. Some of us metabolize these sugars as "real" sugar (or at least part of it), so those 2 g of carbs per stick might add to your daily net carbs. Furthermore, each stick counts as one serving of sweetener (out of the three allowed per day).Originally posted by Sta View PostDoes that mean we are allowed gum?
I'm on OWL 1 and have avoided it so far, but if I'm allowed it that would make me happy

There is no nutrition in chewing gum. I don't chew gum, because I consider it to be nothing else than a bad dietary habit, which is something I am trying to avoid on Atkins. For fresh breath, I'd rather brush my teeth and use floss and mouthwash (yes, I carry my toothbrush, a small tube of toothpaste and dental floss with me all the time
).

Re: chewing gum
You've just reminded me I used to do this when I was in Sherri's now sweetner challenge! I wonder where my cute little waterproof purse thing went to?? I'll have to find it, I used to keep a mini 'foldable' toothbrush and toothpaste in there.Originally posted by Georgiana View PostFor fresh breath, I'd rather brush my teeth and use floss and mouthwash (yes, I carry my toothbrush, a small tube of toothpaste and dental floss with me all the time
