  • Veggie min difficult to get in!

I'm curious how many find it challenging to get in a min of 12-15net carbs ( out of their allowance of 20 ) in - in a day?. I specifically measured everything and pre-planed to try to ensure I get a min of 12 and got in 10 net carbs from veggies leaving room for Meat/Eggs/1 Serving of Cheese/1 Coffee with cream and sweetner, etc - things to eat with my meet and veggies. It was surely challenging to do unless i want to eat so blandly that I'd surely fall off the wagon! LOL

    What is your veggie count?

Here on ADBB we are following Dr Atkins' rules in Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) rather than the new rules the Atkins corporation have introduced since Dr Atkins death.

We therefore are aiming at eating up to 3 cups of vegetables from the two lists in the rules of induction and up to 20 net carbs, most of which from the veggies.

Many people do manage to get 12-15 net carbs from their 3 cups of allowed veg by very careful choices of the more carby ones on the list in order to be able to include some other carbs from cheese, eggs, cream, sweetener etc.

You can get an idea of what to include by reading some of the 'veggie challenge' threads in our semi-annual challenges forum. The latest one you can find by clicking on the link in my signature.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

So you're not neccessarily recording the exact amount of veggies are coming from your 20 allowance so long as you get 3 cups ( 2 from the lower carb list ) and no more then 1 from the higher list? Perhaps that is my challenge as I'm sticking to herbs, lettuce, Iceburg, Peppers, Mushrooms, odd bits of Zucchinii, cucumber etc. I've been stearing away from the 2nd group.

Try adding canned pumpkin to your daily routine -- it has plenty of carbs and fiber so it's a good veggie to eat. Make sure you don't get the pumpkin pie mix (it has sugar in it) -- just the regular canned pumpkin - you can add a little cream, a packet of splenda and spices and microwave it -- it's wonderful!

We keep track of how many veggie carbs we have, because more than 1/2 of our daily carbs have to come from veggies. We don't use the "12-15 veggie carbs" rule - that is from Atkins corp, not DANDR. Of course, total carbs stay under 20.

Yes, eating from the "other" veggies list is a good idea, the are more carby, but they are "good" carbs as those are generally more nutritious veggies than the "salad" group.
