    Hi,

I have found that I am not having regular BM and have been on atkins for 2 weeks. As recommended I went and bought psyillium seed husk pills. Each are 500mg. They recommend you take 2 pills, 3 times a day. Should I stick to that same amount going forward? Will I always need to take this?

I would go ahead with the recommended dosage.

Better to take the fiber than to stop the flow.

Oh, and to get over all that hassle of three times a day and 2 pills..etc (reminds me of diet pills)..I would just go buy some fiber (when the pills run out) that you mix in with water once a day and drink. If you can find a way to enjoy the fiber - you will find yourself wanting to take it every day going forward. And your body will benefit.

Six pills are about the equivalent of 1 tablespoon of psyllium husks, which is the amount recommended in DANDR as a daily fiber supplement. Start with the recommended dosage and see how it goes. You might need to increase it or even switch to another fiber supplement (some people do better with flax, some with wheat bran...). Choose veggies with more dietary fiber for your three daily cups. Eat less cheese and enough fat. Drink enough water. Exercise. These should do the trick.

Will I always need to take this?
I never had to take a fiber supplement for constipation, not even during Induction. Then, on OWL, one consumes more dietary fiber from vegetables, nuts, berries, etc.

I absolutely cannot go without my fiber. I had a complete hysterectomy in 06, and ever since, nothing moves for days if i don't take fiber, so i look forward to taking it before each meal, and if i don't , believe me, i am kicking myself. I feel better, and so light when i take it regularly. I swear by it, not only that.. it is soooo good for you. also cuts down on colesteral .. can't beat that with a stick.

you can also make a flax seed cracker.

          2 tbs of flax meal
          2 tbs water
          spices if you like
mix it up and spread on a piece of parchment paper- cook in micro from 2.5 to 3 minutes.
peel off paper and let cool.

i usually spread some cream cheese and roasted red peppers on it.
