  • First day, Hello.

Hello this is my first day on Atkins Diet BB. I just wan't to say that I am ready and I will do my best on this 14-day Induction.

A few questions before I start,

    1. I eat Mcdonalds Caesar Salad w/ grilled chicken but I do not know the ingredients. The dressing has 4g carb and 0g net carbs. Should I stop on the mcdonalds caesar salad? I know mcdonalds food is mostly bad.

    2. I only have less then 2 months to lose 50 pounds... think its possible?

    3. Is rice and egg ok during my induction?

    4. Can anyone mentor me please? on AIM/MSN would be great but email is ok too.

    -Thanks... gota go.

Welcome to ha and our journey to better health and slimmer figures :wave

According to their website here is the nutrition info for it

Looks like the chicken may have sugar in the seasonings as it has 2 carbs
You would need to pick out and discard the carrots and any croutons from the salad, and don't eat too many tomatoes.
But it is fairly high in protein and carbs and low in fats so perhaps not the best choice. We aim for a ratio of fat/protein/carbs of 65%/30%/5% on induction.
Have a look online at their other meals to find one with more fat.

    2. I only have less then 2 months to lose 50pounds... think its possible?
Well - they do say 'anything is possible' BUT I doubt it :sadblinky . Cleo one of our quicker losers lost 90 pounds in 7 months (I think) and she worked herself really hard with exercise I am sure.
But do your best and see how you go :hug
People often find that Atkins makes them look smaller at their weight that they were previously as they build muscle and lose fat.

    3. Is rice and egg ok during my induction?
No rice till the grain rung of OWL :nono

    4. Can anyone mentor me please? on AIM/MSN would be great but email is ok too.
There is a mentors/buddies forum lower down the main index page where you can contact Chynna who organises a mentor system. Send her a PM and I am sure she will sort something out.

    Hope this helps :hug
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Since Elizellen has covered most of the specifics. I just wanted to tell you anything is possible. Can you lose the weight in 2 months? Who knows? I lost 45 pounds in 2 months. In the end does it really matter if you meet the milestone or not as you will have shown for two months that you can indeed eat healthy and retake control of your life. This being a Way of Living, if you meet your goal in two months, you still have a lifetime to go.

For McDonalds food, I always have been partial to their cheeseburgers no bun, pickles, or ketchup. The rest of it is Induction legal. It is a much better choice than the sugar laden dressings or perhaps starch covered chicken.

Just my thoughts, I hope they help, and that day 1 and day 2-14 are loss filled days for you.

                  Hi there! :wave
Being only on Day 8 I am very new at this but with your menu above I think your going to be hungry and bored. Read DR Atkins book. You can eat much more than that and be satisfied while still loosing weight. I know you want to lose 50lbs in 2 months but you shouldn't starve your body doing it. I have found that keeping a food journal at www.fitday.com has been a great help. You can monitor your ratios and it helps you realize exactly what you are eating. The last 8 days have gone very well for me with little or no cravings. I have felt full after eating and still have managed to lose 7lbs. You have the motivation to lose just do it the right way so you feel good doing it. Anytime you want to chitchat just send me a message.

If I could give a newbie some very important advice it would be to try to stay away from fast food. That stuff is garbage! Everything has fillers and fillers = sugar or flour. Try to eat pure and clean for as long as you can and consider eating out a treat. I'm forced to eat out at least once a week (I say forced because it's not a treat anymore) I have found that my fresh pure food tastes soooo much better than that of the fast food industry. Plan ahead for greater success. On a day off, do some cooking. Always have hard boiled eggs handy. They are a great food to have on hand. Stay away from soda...diet or otherwise.
Definitely get the book and visit atkinscenter.com until then to get a list of acceptable induction foods.

                    Remember keep it pure!
Make it a happy low carb life!

The burgers at McDonald should be completely safe as they are all meat. Unless there is information to the contrary, McDonalds has said they 100% Beef (some organ meat to be sure), but there is no filler in the burgers. The same can not be said for their grilled chicken. The good doctor said while he was still alive on Larry King that when he ate out at fast food he would have just the burger and cheese. I figure if it was good enough for him, it is good enough for me.

Here is a wallet size list of foods you can eat during induction:

Here is a great website that has so many tasty tasty recipes. The recipes with * at the end are induction friendly:

Read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 induction, or you are guarenteed to fail. It explains how this way of eating works, and WHY it works. Without the proper tools, you'll be setting yourself up for failure.

Hope I don't sound too harsh but it is exremely important if you want to do atkins right and if you want to lose weight in a healthy way.
                        F 24 5'10 SW - 217 GW 170 restarted atkins 1/14/08 - This time I'm sticking with it!

                        1st pic Pre restarting atkins @ 217 lbs. 2nd pic 20 lbs lighter @ 197 lbs! on 3/1/08

                          -----------Update---------------

Hello this is 3rd day in induction and everything is going great. I started on Sunday and on Monday I started jogging/walking for 20 minutes. I have gone on the scale today and I have lost 3 1/2 pounds.

                          My menu

Morning - 2 scrambled eggs (fried) w/ Carbwise bar (3 net carbs)

Afternoon - Mcdonalds Caesar Salad w/ Grilled Chicken (I learned that Grilled has much less carbs then Caesar salad w/ crispy chicken).

Evening - Low Carb Chicken Soup.

Hey, how's it going?! Welcome to ADBB!!

This place is great for support and information.

I would definitely lose those carbwise bars (at least during your first two weeks). Those are definitely not induction-friendly and most people find they lose less while consuming them. I've only had them a few times when I'm in a pinch and that was much later in the program.

Looks like you're doing well otherwise, and do try to mix things up a bit or you'll likely get bored and cheat. I can't believe how much variety I get in the food I have now and how much I love to cook!

Congrat son starting, and keep up the hard work....don't forget to exercise!!

I will try to get off the carbwise bars but can you tell me why its not induction friendly? is it because its noy 65%/35%/10%?
