    Welcome kd

In my opinion, a good reason to avoid the bars is to allow yourself to get the maximum benefit from induction. Induction is a time when you learn how to eat for the rest of your life. A time when you learn to fill your day with fresh, wholesome food that doesn't come out of a carton, box or a can.

It is also a time to break your addictions. I'm willing to mentor you or anyone, but I'm strict about induction and I won't be ok with any cheating or sniveling and I won't babycake your tushy on that. I know all the excuses, i've used them all myself! heh, heh

It would depend on the ingredients in teh bar.
I have had a quick look online and it appears all teh carbwise bars contain this
Contents of Protein Blend: Soy Protein Nuggets [Soy Protein Isolate, Rice Starch, Brown Rice Flour], Calcium Caseinate, Whey Protein Isolate.
as well as other differing items depending on the flavour/type.
I have emboldened the ingredients that are not induction friendly.

In case your bar is different from the above why not look at the list on the packet and make sure it doesnt contain rice, starch, wheat etc. If you are not sure then list them here and someone will be able to confirm if it is OK or not. :hug

Apart from that many people find that eating things sweetened with what is called 'sugar alcohols' (Maltitol/Lactitol and other names) which the makers refer to as having 'no impact carbs' and therefore take off the carb count to make the bars lowcarb DO affect their body in the same way as sugars do.
here is a FAQ about them http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ic.php?t=68071
Even the Atkins company say on their website that use of their bars and shakes 'may affect weightloss' and advise you to drop them if you find they stall you. There has been much debate on this board about using these lowcarb products and it is a thing each of us has to decide what we want to about them. Here is a FAQ with some thoughts about it. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ic.php?t=68070
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I'm guessing that the bars are bad because they stretch your carbs too thin. Dr. Atkins is very specific about what you can and cannot eat. Even cheese has a specific limit. Pure meat is the only thing that you can eat liberally. He is trying to get you into lipolysis without starving you, and you have to do that under 20g of carbs. Imagine if you decided to limit your calories to 1200 a day, and then went out in the morning and ate an 800 calorie milkshake. Sure, it's technically okay, but where does that leave you for the rest of the day? I'm speculating here, but I suspect that's why he makes the first two weeks so strict, basically so people CAN do it without putting their bodies into starvation or making themselves sick. God didn't write his rules, and I suppose you might be able to bend them here or there, but I see no reason to stray from the book when his diet is satisfying and proven effective.
I'm 26 years old, and I lost weight on this plan in 2005. I'm getting married in August and thought this would be the way to go after making little progress on other diets. I've got 20 lbs to lose for the big day!

The bars are bad because they contain ingredients that are not on the Acceptable Foods list.

When a food says it has low carbs, that doesn't necessarily mean it's safe for all phases of Atkins. This is where your knowledge of the Acceptable Foods list and the 'why' behind Atkins is so important.
Atkins places a lot of focus on keeping a person's blood sugars level.

There lots of substitutes for bars....cold boiled eggs, deli meat roll-ups with cream cheese, or other cheese, and pickle inside, leftover meat from dinner dipped in ranch or blue cheese dressing...pretty much anything you can imagine.
