Low Carb Lettuce???

  • Low Carb Lettuce???

    I have a question.. I buy romaine lettuce in a bag and I get the brand "Fresh Express" and on the label the serving size is 2.5 cups and each serving has 3 grams of Carbs and 2 grams of Dietary Fiber.. which should mean 1 net carb... the reccomendation is 3 cups of veggies a day, but since this lettuce has one carb per 2.5 cups, can I eat a big salad?? I'm just concerned because if I eat just the 3 cups I might fall short of my daily carb count...

    I think this just shows that the only salad veggie is never just lettuce leaves. Expand outward to other salad veggies like peppers, mushrooms, etc. You will raise your carb total and also increase the nutrients in your diet. One more thought, remember the thought is 20 net carbs or less. You don't necessarily have to eat 20 each day exactly, but you can get closer by adding other salad veggies. I would not overdo the lettuce more than 3 cups though either.

      And remember you can have one cup from the list of 1-cup veggies most of which are more nutritious and have a few more carbs than lettuce if you only have 2 cups of the 2-3 cup list.
      Dr Atkins suggested we have at least half of our carbs each day from veggies so dont aim too low with the carb count.

        yep add other veggies and othersalad veggies so you get lots of those micronutrients we all need.

        Oh and there is no minimum carb limit 20 net carbs it the daily maxiumum so eat your 3 cups of veggies and if you fall short of 20 that is okay too.

          lettuce always tastes so bland to me anyway, I love spinach though. and mushrooms. Mushrooms are a 3 cub a day veggie and its so easy to spread throughout the day in every meal!

          spinach is only 1 cup though... but it still tastes better to me than lettuce.
